my point exactly. you wouldn't notice any difference at all... I was (and I'm sure Greg was) listening in great detail.

It seems odd that although it is a version of the album cut, it still goes into FHLI and fades out.

My final guess would be it is taken from a rough mix of the album... so although the segue is inplace, it isn't quite the 'final' mix of the song.

Or maybe it was mixed but not mastered yet? But there are definitely no ad-libs orr anything that we don't know from the album... Nothing was recorded in BBC studio- that's obvious...

yeah.. something like that. The presence of the 'studio noises' on the BBC recording suggest it was remixed and tidied up before release, but following the same studio notes for mixing... so whilst the performances are the same, there are ~differences~ but not too obvious.

Someone can upload this track? I can't hear! Please

I
No, because it's official material
D
I know this has been done to death, but I'd say yes upload it, because it isn't official... it's a ~BBC~ recording and can be audibly proved to be NOT the same sonically as the regular album cut. Obvious the differences are TINY, but are still there.
F
It already ahppened- the version were HERE compared- noone noticed any differences...

Maybe no one here has the ability to tell the differences? Which is understandable. I'm a Techie, and know what to spot.
W
I did a detailed comparison ages ago.
Wilki We must all HEAR to believe
D
What did you find? Did you notice the afformentioned noises and stereo panning differences?
I
Oh my fucking god...

Where were you when John and Richard have discussed about it through the days?

It's a joke. It's been discussed to death, JSS has said it's no different...and here we go again.

What I would like to know is what they used to play it? I'm guesing it was stored on reel-to-reels from back in the early 70's? Have the beeb recently transferred everything to some form of digital media?

The copy that Queen Productions own now, thanks to a generous donation from a private collector, was recorded "off-air", whatever that meant. And yes, it was on a reel-to-reel tape. Not sure which size though (I should ask Greg that question).

1/4" reel-to-reel tapes are (or were) the most common stereo analogue tapes. I'd imagine the copy that exists is on that format.

The original mastertapes were deleted by the BBC, so don't expect any 5.1 remixes from those...EVER! (If it was recorded as a multitrack, which I imagine they did. If they did, it probably would've been an 8-track or 16-track tape)

The other 5 sessions should still exist in their original (multitracked?) mastertape form.

Dysan, I did a stereo A:B mix myself, which I discussed the results of with Greg Brooks, where I put the BBC tape copy of the song (kindly provided for free by Greg himself) on the left channel, changed the speed digitally after converting it to 192kHz quality (changing the speeds on 44.1kHz quality will KILL the quality!) so that it was synchronized with the CD copy I downloaded off of KaZaA, and found no difference other than tape hiss on the BBC "version" channel side.

You're NOT missing anything.

But if you want to wait a while: Even Greg Brooks said to me he's interested in the idea of an A:B comparison, and he will have Justin do a mix himself in the same way I did it, so he can see for himself what I was talking about (and thus discrediting his article in the process)

So, if the BBC deleted the masters (as I understood also), does this mean they've 'borrowed' the queen productions copy to replay for this show?
