Here's what's truly pathetic about this section of Queenzone:

People just download, a few say thank you, others request things to be reseeded, but there is very little discussion (if any at all!) regarding what they have just downloaded. Pitiful.

This kind of discussion could be helpful for someone who doesn't know anything about the recording. They could read a few posts with differing opinions, and then decide if they want to use the bandwith to download the material.

But whenever have QZ and logic mixed, anyway? Everybody will just keep leeching regardless of what anyone says on this matter, but I just felt I had to complain about this anyway.

I realize this is the annonuce section, but I thought I'd post this here so some leechers who don't surf to other sections of the forum could see it.

I think these comments are perfectly justified. I don't think this is so much a thread about whether people are leechers or not, but more about the lack of dialogue about what is being downloaded. It's a very small thing to say thanks to the uploader (although it's only about 1 in 10 thateven does that). But how about some discussion around what we trade.

I'd like to clear one thing up.

THIS FORUM IS NOT JUST FOR ANNOUNCE POSTS.

Note Richard's desciption: The Queen Hub, Queen BitTorrents. Also general swapping / trading

We can discuss trading in here, we can discuss the Hub, and we can surey discuss the music we trade / share / download. I have seen a lot of people telling others to post in another forum when it was quite appropriate to post in this one. If we ONLY use it for posting ANNOUNCE posts, then it's no surprise that there is no discussion around the things we download.

I posted just yesterday in the manner Bob is speaking about. I posted that I had downloaded that yaskul 1975 hammersmith video torrent, only to find it was not as good as the one I already had. Just to let people know who might be considering downloading it. They could always email me or post again, asking for more detail. That's what we could do. Talk about the shows we download, whether they are good or bad or indifferent.

I don't think Paul's post was at all constructive. Just because there are those of us that are quite enamoured by collecting concerts does not mean we think this is life itself, and that nothing happens outside this forum. I for one have many other interests, and I found Paul's post to be quite patronising (normally I quite like what he says).

I'm sure Richard is going to put the share ratio in place soon, and it's a good thing too. There are many with a poor attitude here. A bit of policing will keep us all a bit more on the generous side I would think. And no you can't have a share ratio on rapidshare but neither do you need one. The show stays on the server irregardless, so there is no way to share it back or whatever.

As for the leeching and share ratios I think it more important that people are willing to RE-SEED when requested tan to get their ratio to 100% and then say screw it, that's me. I realise that not everybody can reseed all the time (I myself have been caught there many times, because of renamig files or whatever), so I always try and seed for a few days when I am finished.

And Sir GH, you are no doubt right. The leechers will keep leeching, irregardless. But I think it only right you bring these issues up.

But I don't have time to go searching the planet for all the stuff you upload Nor do I wish to. However I WILL download the odd song if I find it online.

And that's absolutely great! IThe SHARE RATIO is not about uploading new shows that no-one seeded before. It's about LEAVING THE WINDOW OPEN! When you finished downloading and it took you let's say 4 hours- leave the window open for another 4... Man- 25% ratio I'm talking about would meant for another hour! What we have got here now are people who download and close their windows as quick as they can. The torrent doesn't work this way. The torrent works on a basis that we all share- and when you complete downloading you become seeder for a while. If everyoneclosed their window the moment downloading is finished- everything is up to the guy who shared the gig in the first place. That's what I meant about the SHARE RATIO and it doesn't require any of your time and searching for anything- just leave torrent window open after you downloaded so others can get the gig as well (and quicker)

It's quite simple. If you don't want to share, don't upload. Swap addresses with your wee mates in here, and email/snail-mail your stuff to each other. But for FUCK's sake, whatever you do - get a bloody life.

Now what the hell are you talking about??? I want to share and I insist that the people don't just snap and run but at least allow others as well to enjoy the shows. Don't want to share? Fuckin;' hell- I'm talking opposite! The longer the window you leave open, the more ppl will get the concert. So for FUCK's sake, whatever you do- YOU get a bloody life and if you wanna argue with me at least go to some affort to check out what EXACTLY do I mean and what the hell all those torrents are about... I'm not talking about rapidshare at all- I couldn't care less...

And you worry about people downloading illegal material that you upload to the internet??

Get out more.

That's so pretentious that almost unbeliavable. It's you who should go out more. And not to pub, but somewhere where they speak proper English... Will help your comprehension skills...

PS
You went personal and patronising- I palyed the same card... Hope we can drop that bullshit now and talk as normal ppl.

Good post, djaef. I definitely wasn't pleased when I saw that post in the Hammy75 topic telling you to immediately share your copy. I guess discussing recordings that are better just prompt people to beg more.

*sigh*... there's no way out.

Shit in a bucket. I didn't even see that! I haven't been back to that thread. Hmmm... not really surprising though is it.

Actually, I like to modify how and what I write to be accessible to the lowest common denominator.

By the way, I have often noted in my posts that this is an open forum in which people can write whatever they want - as long as they can back it up with rationale thought.

But the concept is much like trading.
Don't want to share? Don't upload!
Don't like what is written? Ignore it!
Or even better, reply with rationale arguments!

Actually, all I'm really saying - and said before, if you read it again - is just get things in perspective.

Again, I reiterate - because you selectively decided NOT to note this - I am very grateful for the casual download opportunities that this, AND many other sites offer.

But I won't be called a leecher, when the material is offered with no share ratio, no controls and no moderation.

Anyway, let's take this in a different direction:

Tell you what. All the vinyl bootlegs I have, you lot probably have too. Mannheim, Sheetkeekers, etc. And my RT concert in Florence. The Cross at the Astoria. All of those.

But if I transpose them to digital from vinyl and tape, and upload them, will that make you happy?

At least I'm *sharing*. Or do you want to impose a limit on what material can be uploaded too?

Absolutely. It's just that your post came across as patronising, and showed that you had totally misunderstood the gist of what Fenderek was saying.

Sarcasm is not the way to go...

I think that is a fair comment. But do you understand what people are talking about with leeching? It has nothing to do with whether they share NEW stuff. It has all to do with whether they keep the torrents alive by keeping their torrent clients open AFTER they have downloaded the concerts, so that others can then download them. That is sharing, not leeching. Leeching is downloading what you want and then disconnecting.

It's comments like this that make me think you have no idea what Fenderek and others were saying. No-one is telling you that you have to upload stuff to be a sharer.

Your original post telling people that they needed to get a life was rude and you can't expect people to respond nicely to that. We all have lives of some sort. Just because some of us might have more time or enthusiasm to spend here than you makes us in no way "lifeless". There's just no need for that sort of in the gutter comments. Especially coming from someone who proposes he uses rational thought.

Maybe you just got all worked up because you misunderstood the "leecher" comments. I think you understand it now at any rate. Or do you still feel the same way? I agree that people should not upload stuff if they don't want to share. I for one expect nothing except common courtesy off others (sharing the burden for keeping the torrents alive primarily, and a thank you is always nice).

If you don't have anything new to share, that's fine. Totally understandable. But everyone can help out with seeding / reseeding the torrents and that is the right thing to do. We mightn't have a share ratio enforced her yet, but if you need something like that to be in place for you to do the right thing, then that's sad.

But of course, though I thought it was a little preposterous to sing Jethro Tull's 'One White Duck' at first, but I found out I have a really nice voice and really enjoy singing it.

You're right Zeni, I probably shouldn't have posted - but hey, it's fun sometimes, y'know? Things like this are very hard to take seriously and occasionally the proverbial mirror is needed. But as for your dubious assertions that it was a 'grown ups' conversation...

Well if that is the definition of leeching within this particular site, (and I have seen it used as a definition for other) then I must admit, I am fairly guilt free, as the PC sits on and connected pretty much 24/7.

And if that IS the case, then I have no idea why people are unable to follow the simple instruction of keeping the window open... And they deserve all the share-ratio they get...

Just reminding others that a share ratio of less than 100% is leeching to some extent. Obviously, 95% is a bit more forgivable than 30%. The only thing that keeps this alive is sharing.

I downloaded my first ever torrent yesterday and my share ratio is 304% - do I get a free duck?

All I got left at this point in the season, Bob, are tap-dancing Mallards.

If the Mallards were lap dancing instead of tap dancing, I would have taken them ;-p

Almost everyone has missed the point of this topic. It was NOT about the amount of downloading/uploading that is being done. It was all about how there is little discussion specifically about the material being downloaded. Zeni is absolutely right: The sense of community is almost non-existent in the announce section. It has become all about the downloading, and not about discussing as fans and friends what we have just downloaded. People just run off to the next announce topic to download something else, most of them without saying thank you, or re-seeding. And that's another discussion altogether.

Everyone, just look... how many of the announce topics from the past months contain a constructive conversation about the content (quality, performance, etc.) of the material being shared?
