One of the things that I DO respect Brian for is how angry he gets when he says the press misquotes or edits what he has said verbatim.

Well, he is posting reviews of ''Killer Queen A Tribute To Queen'' on his website. One of the few bad reviews is from New York's Newsday.com. and Brian's website cuts and edits the unfavorable words in the 1st paragraph, and totally leaves out/cuts/edits the 2nd paragraph which is unfavorable.

Look, not all the reviews will be good, but then don't post it if it's unfavorable, rather than editing the unfavorable parts/words and making it ''appear'' to be better than it is. I want to know, as a Queen fan the TRUTH, of what critics think, both good and bad.

Give Queen fans enough credit for having enough intelligence to read the TRUTH of what critics think, but want to listen to the CD for themselves and make their own, responsible, intelligent decisions of its merits, based on their own independent, intelligent thoughts.

Playing with the truth...hmmmmm. I have lost a bit of respect for Brian here.

The FULL, complete review is:

Another ''Killer Queen A tribute To Queen'' review, from New York's Newsday.com. by Glenn Gamboa.

''KILLING QUEEN. Queen's music, especially Freddie Mercury's vocals, are incredibly difficult to re-create, much less surpass. Which is why ''Killer Queen: A Tribute to Queen'' (Hollywood) may have seemed like a good idea on paper, but in practice, it runs the gamut from exciting to excruciating. Be Your Own Pet's snotty, fast-and-loose reworking of ''Bicycle Race'' is surprisingly good, as is Josh Kelley's decision to turn ''Crazy Little Thing Called Love'' into a Cars song. Both versions of ''Bohemian Rhapsody'' work well, Flaming Lips' spacey remake and Constantine's faithful one.''

''Unfortunately, Gavin DeGraw's overacting makes ''We Are The Champions'' practically unlistenable, and Joss Stone sucks all the life out of ''Under Pressure'' when she recasts it as a glossy soul number. Luckily, they can't kill the originals, no matter how hard they try.''

..........Brian's edited version of the review, which deletes the unfavorable words in paragraph 1, and which totally edits out the 2nd paragraph which is not so favorable, on his website is:

First of all, it would not be Brian's fault if somebody else has fucked up the songs. Brian doesn't even appear on them!

Secondly, writing bad things as well as the good things actually is the whole point of independent reviews.
If I want to hear how absolutely wonderful every single Queen-related item is, I'll stick to reading Queenonline (or QZ apparently..).

It sounds to me as though Brian, has edited the bits that are unfavourable to the people who performed the songs. He may have done this as a
sign of respect to them, as in saying everyone knows what has been written however I dont feel the need to repeat it here.

I actually respect him for that, and lets be right
if he had put the full article in then some people would have said he was being bitchy, just because they were Queen songs, and this critic thought they were done badly by other people, he couldnt win.

Also, I have only read this quickly but it appears to me that the critic was in no way slagging off Queen or their music.

I'm with Brian on this.
Is it happening?

If you misquote someone by yourself, then don't complain if someone's misquoting you...

I highly doubt if Brian is aware of that. As far as I know Jen does everything on the website, she even puts on Brian's soapbox thingies. Jen also checks his fanmail which he gets through the website. She has to protect Brian from the reality

Ditto- IMO she does a pretty... weird job sometimes...

I am afraid you are ill informed, Niek. Jen does not pre-select the fan emails for Brian, he gets to see them all. I think she does an awesome job maintaining the website and answering all the emails (her emails, not Brian's)and providing for the news. Please don't forget that she had her website for ages before Brian started to write his soap box stuff there and finally made it his official website.

It's not so easy to run an official website for a star like Brian and Jen has to put up with loads of rubbish each day which she does with grace and style. She is a great lady with a great heart and she never tries to put herself into the spotlight like so many other people who are close to celebrities.
I do not want any google ads here.
F
But if a review have been edited- it's her decission surely, not Brian's...? And do you think Brian really gets all the Emails?

What I wonder is why there are like 10 different "Killer Queen" reviews on the news section.

By the way, DO NOT COPY ANYTHING FROM BRIAN'S SITE. It is illegal... it says so on there.

If I was Brian, I would of edited the shit out too. What kind of idiot would post bad things about the music he has made?

Richard and I both know NOT to copy anything from Brian's website and we have discussed this.

I did NOT and NEVER do, copy ANYTHING from Brian's website.

I copied them per Richard, DIRECTLY from the NEWS SOURCES and I ALWAYS give the SOURCE links as I have been instructed to do by Richard.

...(which shows you contradict yourself and don't read before you open your mouth, as the review I posted......IS COMPLETE, because it IS FROM NY Newsday.com....it is NOT the EDITED version from and on Brian's website!).........

....I ALSO gave the WRITER'S Name who wrote the article...........

You also will see my intros at the beginning of each article ...

.....and each article or person's statements is in italics.....with the quotes'/articles' source and link so that it is not copyright infringement, that's what the italics and SOURCE link are for..................

......Anything that are MY OWN Original comments, are NOT in italics.........

Before you make statements you know nothing about, better check your facts.

Richard has specific instructions for what I do as QZ Official News Journalist, his appointment to me, which I follow to the letter.

"But if a review have been edited- it's her decission surely, not Brian's...? And do you think Brian really gets all the Emails?"

yes, that's Jen's decision, therefore the criticism aims at Jen and not Brian. And , yes, I am 100% sure that Brian sees all his emails. The website says that requests for autographs will be deleted but otherwise Brian's emails are not pre-selected at all.
I do not want any google ads here.

After finally hearing the album I think the only decent or fairly reasonable produced track is Jason Mraz's GOFLB otherwise it sucks big time!

There that's my personal review...short and sweet and to the bleeding point!

Sorry JenX and Dr. BHM do not feel the same but hey that's life!

Kriz ;o)

"I want to know, as a Queen fan the TRUTH, of what critics think, both good and bad."

As a fan, I don't care what critics think. They usually have different tastes than I do. It doesn't make sense to go by what someone else says about music unless you like the same music for the same reasons.

I like about half of the tribute CD. I was disappointed that Sum 41 tried to make their song so much like the original. It doesn't even sound like Sum 41.

I like when bands cover a song by interpreting it into their own style or giving it a different perspective, musically. Otherwise it's pointless. The covers of Stone Cold Crazy and Play The Game are good examples of that.

Jen is an editor. I don't think she does anything without asking Brian. Cutting the article wasn't just her decision. I think it's obvious for every brianmay.com readers that The Master doens't really like if someone doesn't like him, his work or any related projects.

BTW I find it not alright, either, if they cut out the unpleasant parts.

I didn't know we had an official news journalist on QZ. I thought we could all post anything Queen news related that we found. Does this mean we have to send any news article on Queen to Arlene first and she'll post it?
