You're a little, er, far too young to have experienced Queen's hay day this side of the globe, Deaky my boy. Queen were bigger in the States and Canada in the late 70's/early 80's, long before you were even a twinkle in your daddy's eye. You would have enjoyed it. All I can say is watch all of the old videos/concerts - it'll whet your whistle, even if you weren't here to live through it. But just think - you're gonna catch them on the crest of their second wave - so one wave is better than none, right?

HELL YEAH THEY SHOULD BE!!!!!!!!!!!

Their influence on the music world is there but it's just not as talked about as, oh say, Led Zeppelin.

Well their reputation is huge in Europe, maybe not in the states. The world concists of more places than the US, you know...

Why didnt the USA agree with the video I Want To Break Free? Roger did say in an interview that after I Want To Break Free video that made them less popular in the USA.

Will someone answer my question please, thank you.

Yeah, they were definitely huge. I think about in the top 5-6 biggest selling bands of all time and arguably the greatest live band ever.

Gods almost in England and to a lesser extent the rest of Europe. One of the biggest bands in South America and Japan. As for North America, they were obviously very big at one stage. I feel that if their status in America had continued as it was in the late seventies-early eighties and not sunken as it had during the later eighties, they would have been as big as Pink Floyd, maybe Zep, with regards to sales. I think that the discrepancy between the sales of these two bands and Queen can be accounted for in the states alone.

I come from Australia, where they had a fairly good following, although could be better. Recently though, the local radio station in Melbourne that plays classic rock (50s-80s), had a big poster campaign(you know, slapping big posters against the sides of buildings) and one of them was a picture of Freddie singing in concert, I think from around the Works Tour.

There's other places in the world outside of the U.S.? Gee - I didn't KNOW that Ayreon.

I was referring to THIS part of the world (U.S. & Canada only) for Deaky Boy's benefit. Give ME a little credit here.

Queen were, are, and will always be APPRECIATED more in other countries than the U.S., and for the life of me, I just can't figure out why. They've kept me entertained and motivated for over 30 years now, and there are others here in the U.S. that feel the same way...but for some unknown reason, we just don't have the masses of Queen fans that are present everywhere else in the world.

If you hear the DJ's talk about Queen on U.S. radio stations - they all claim to love our boys. But, the generation of kids now (actually, the last generation, too) are too much into (c)rap music or whatever the hell they're listening to and they aren't getting exposed to anything with any diversity - which is the MAIN reason why I have remained a Queen fan this long - the music they create(d) gives one a lot of colors and flavors and variety. To me, it seems the bands out now are stuck in one genre - they only play one kind of music. Queen do rock, country, love songs/ballads, opera, pop, disco, the blues, flamenco...NOBODY, and I do mean NOBODY else can even come close to being able to dabble in all of these different styles and actually pull it off with any conviction like Queen did/does.

Folks in the U.S. in my opinion are too easily brainwashed with the current trend in music. And to me, the current music out there is just noise/static...it's far from being music to my ears.

I'll always be one of the (handful of) diehard Queen fans here in the U.S. I obviously have been hearing the same messages that every other loyal Queen fan around the world has been hearing for decades. I'll always appreciate Queen, even if my compadres think otherwise.

I think Queen IS more popular than The Beatles and Led Zeppelin at the moment (In The Netherlands at least).
I listen to the radio every day (just a normal 'popular music-station', not a rock-station or something) at my work and every day I hear Queen at least one or two times, and hardly ever I hear The Beatles or Led Zeppelin... never actually.

True, in the Netherlands Queen is one of the most popular bands, and one that still gets frequent airplay. I believe I hear more Queen songs on the radio than songs by the Rolling Stones, Beatles and U2, although recently U2 was voted best band ever before Beatles(#2) and Queen(#3).

Sometimes I think that Queen became bigger again in Germany in the last time. Dunno why, maybe because of the tour. On almost every radio station you can hear that Queen is played more often and even the prices for queen albums go up or there are special price supplies for Queen stuff. When I want to buy some Queen stuff I don't have look for it in the darkest corner anymore. That's such a great development. I really think Germany's enthusiasm for Queen comes back (although it was never really absent).

I agree to your opinion Freddies Angel

The simple answer is that Queen are just not trendy and cool enough for people to admit liking. I doubt it will ever change either.

At work the other staff don't admit to liking Queen but the first band to get people humming along to when a song is played on the radio is Queen.
