I know many people don't like their mainstream pop era of the 80s, but regardless of whether their 70s progressive rock era was better or not, their 80s work was still superb.

I like both a lot, Phil solo and with Genesis. How does Phil Collins rate as a drummer?

Do yourself a favor. Listen to ROTC on a really, really GOOD, LOUD stereo system.
Paul Rodgers can absolutely, flat out FUCKING SING! The more I listen the more his voice really fits the music, save IWIA.

That live album is proably my 2nd all time faborite live album by any artist, ties with The Allman Brothers Live At Fillmore East and Queen Live At Wembley Stadium.
I also saw Phil Collins solo in concert about 3 or 4 days AFTER Live Aid the first week of July 1985.
Both the Genesis concert and the Phil Collins solo concerts were outstanding.
FYI...Phil did about a ten minute ''DAY-O'' with the crowd at his concert that I loved.

Cinema Show/Slipperman/Afterglow, ADORE!!!! Me And Sarah Jane, Just A Job To Do and the UNEDITED long version of Home By The Sea.

Oh...and best light/laser shows ever in concert.
And Collins KICKS ass when he leaves the stage front singing lead...to do his STUPENDOUS drum solos.
Absolutely, POSTIVELY ADORE them. (I did not like the incarnation with Peter Gabriel), but the incarnation with Phil Collins I have every album, and saw them in concert, braving a snow storm, January 1986..at their peak.

I saw Phil last year in Columbus, OH. Great show!!
However, he wore this Dr. Evil jacket, and with his little bald head, I dunno, he just looked bizarre....

I wasn’t even intending on writing a song, I just was fooling around and I got these chords that I liked and the sound. And the chords went with the sound. You couldn’t have played faster or slower than the sound allowed you to. So it sort of created itself. So I turned the microphone on and saw the meter move, that was a good sign, and I started singing. And the lyrics you hear were what I wrote spontaneously with the feeling of that music at that time. This frightens me a bit cause there’s obviously something going on there that I don’t know about, but I’m quite proud of the fact that I sang 99.9% of those lyrics spontaneously. And when someone says “Now tell me Phil, what is it really about” I say “I don’t know. I have no idea as I just made it up as I went along”

Actually, do you think he would admit that to someone that would put it in print.. lol myself I may have said the exact same thing.. or perhaps it is like Queen's "Death On Two Legs" and his Ex sued him NOT to talk about her again.. I remember hearing about 4 different versions What Barracuda was written about, and each time it was told by Ann and Nancy.. but I am sure there is a bit of truth to Arlenes version and a bit to the one Phil said.. you NEVER know.

I like his work w/ Genesis twice as better as his solo stuff. I still have my Invisible Touch cassette I bought in 1986.
His early/mid-80's solo stuff was OK (I Missed Again, Don't Lose My Number, One More Night, I Don't Care Anymore) but I never really liked his late 80s stuff or any of his 90s stuff (Two Hearts, A Groovy Kind Of Love, Dance Into The Light, True Colors, I Wish It Would Rain Down...etc.)

I prefer Gabriel era Genesis but some of the Phil Collins era Genesis material was quite good. I like early Phil Collins solo work.
