the thing is with Bob Dylan is that he doesn't have a classicly good voice. what his voice has is character. he can deliver a song brilliantly and his phrasing is superb.
many many singers with 'good' voices can't sing with originality and character.
but many singers who don't have what most people would consider a good voice can deliver a song brilliantly. off the top of my head people such as bruce springsteen, tom petty, van morrison, mark knopfler, tom waite, neil young, roger waters, jimi hendrix.
i think dylan is the master of perfect delivery even though his voice does have many limitations in musical terms.

cover versions of his material to my ears usually sound bland because they are missing the unique delivery that you get with dylan's voice.

the other point about dylan is that he polarises opinion. people tend to either love him or hate him.
but i think that is a good thing, people who polarise opinion tend to be a bit left field rather than middle of the road cooners such as cliff richard. zeppelin are another band who have this polarising affect.

my gran sounds better coughing up her guts every morning than crappy old Dylan trying to sing. most people only say they like him coz he was "cool" to like but actually ive heard better noises when my cat gave birth
