From a VH1 documentary, Brian said that they knew something was wrong with him. Then, one day Freddie set up a meeting and said: "Listen, you probably know what I'm dealing with....I have this thing, you know...and as far as I'm concerned there's no cure. I don't want anybody to know about this and I don't need to talk about this anymore, and that's it"

Honestly, Freddie would tell Mary before anyone, but according to her, it was her who answered the phone because Freddie just didn't want to hear or face the fact of it.

I would love to know the details of that (me and a million other people lol) because the test wasn't available until 1985 and I would love to know how he was diagnosed in 1984 without showing sarcoma or any other symptons. Freddie was rich maybe he had the test before it was approved, and I just thought of something else, it was approved by the FDA in 1985 so it might've definitely been available in europe before then so yeah who knows.

Generally, the way it works the best in my head is:
*He thinks something is up from around '84 onwards, or at the very least he's just paranoid because the AIDS thing has become serious.
*He knows something is up in '86. Don't ask me how. It just seems like that - and after Knebworth he says to Brian very abruptly "I don't want to do it anymore".
*Gets diagnosed in '87, we all know that because it's in the book.
*He tells Monsterrat while they're working on Barcelona. She's shocked because he's still so great at what he does.
*I reckon the band found out in 88. As I've said before, John asked Monsterrat what the marks were, so it was becoming obvious something was up. And work on The Miracle started around then, so there's nothing that'll get a musician working faster than a death sentence (very sad, but very true).
There you have it, that's just how it sounds right to me.

Hint, look at the back of Freddie's arms at live aid. And actually, they did have tests for it in 1984, even look it up.

I just did a quick google search and in the first couple results ""Traditional" blood antibody tests: These tests were first developed in 1985 and were the first HIV tests available."
