[QUOTE][QUOTENAME]Janet wrote: [/QUOTENAME]Guinea pig sows are at risk of pregnancy complications because the babies are born large and ready to run. Breeding after 8 months of age can be fatal for a guinea pig who has not had a previous litter due to dystocia. Sows with dystocia usually need a caesarian section. The survival rate is very poor.[/QUOTE]
And this is what happened to my Sarah. She was too old to have any babies. Her uterus prolapsed and she bled to death basically. My little sweety would be here with me right now if I had been more careful.
As I was cleaning the cage out after I made this post, I found another dead baby in the cage. So there were two. I wrapped the babies up with their mommy and took them to my parents' house. We are going to bury them tomorrow.
Poor Cameron is distraught. Sarah and her were the best of friends.
Thanks everyone for your support. Luv you guys.

Sorry Lisser, You have my sympathies.

Hey Melissa,

:-(
Take care.

[QUOTE][QUOTENAME]Lisser wrote: [/QUOTENAME]I'm distraught today. My precious Guinea Pig, Sarah died through the night. I accidentally bred her when I didn't realize that one of my other GPs was a male. It is very hard on GPs to have babies. When I came downstairs this morning, I found her and the baby, that looked exactly like her, dead. I just can't forgive myself for what I did to her. She'd still be here right now if I had realized Em was a boy sooner. I loved her very much.

I don't really understand. Isn't the GP supposed to be a male with her?
I'm sorry to hear about this. I know how it feels because I had a cat put to sleep once and another one got lost when my oldest sister let her outside.

Thanks everyone. It was just as hard this morning to come downstairs as it was yesterday. She always greeted me and stuck her cute little pink nose through her cage to try and get to me. I'll be ok soon, it just takes time.
Fairy, I'm just a little scared of you bc you "talk to Freddie" and he talks to you. That wigs me out hun, sorry.
But again, thanks everyone.

Actually I never said Freddie talks to me....unfortunately that has never happened....If you check my blog you'll see my story.
anyway don't ever be scared of me..I'm a very loving gal! :-)
On pets, I've always had cats and each time one dies or disappears I go crazy. So I can understand how you feel...

Hey Melissa, I'm so sorry about Sarah, it was easy to see how much you loved your pets when we were at the pet store. How are the kids taking it? I know your daughter shared your love of her. And like everyone else has said, don't beat yourself up about it, it was an easy mistake to make. Take care.
Aw thanks Aaron and Sarah, and everyone else. I loved her very much. I will be ok in time. Cameron is taking it very hard. She cried all day yesterday and this morning when we came downstairs and no Sarah. The baby just keeps asking where she is. He doesn't understand. The good news is that there is a baby boy GP that needs a good home. We are going to take a looksy at him and see if we can give him some love!!
:)
:)
That sucks. I just read that the bunny who carried a things around on his head (pancakes, rolls of film and what not) died...a couple of years ago and that made me feel bad too :(
Sorry to hear.
