ANATO 30th anniversary what a joke

After putting off watching the dvd at all for about two weeks, (i got it for my birthday)after all the critiscism it's received on here, I put it on and was pleasantly surprised. There are no rarities, it is true but I think very devoted fans have to realise that these things are issued to make money (or EMI would refuse to issue it at all) and is more aimed towards the main market than people who have nearly every bootleg, outtake, interview in existence.

This is no offence to the hardcore fans as I think it's safe to say most people on here must be pretty damn interested to take the time to visit the site at all. However, some people have said it's a waste of time putting on the concert footage on the dvd as everyone's already seen it but that's only true if you are a collector who knows their way around the internet download sites and/or has the money to pay for such things.
It may be true that the hub or QZ members already own these things as bootlegs but I have never seen it before and I download as much as I can (I don't have bitorrent)and have never seen this material before. In addition, I find the commentary fascinating and the non-concert videos such as Seaside Rendevous artistic and stylish.
That isn't to say the re-release is without its faults. I think that some rarities and demos should have been included or perhaps some purely instrumental tracks but to say that it is crap I think is an exaggeration.

If and only if you do not like the 30 year anniversary of A Night At The Opera, please do the following-

1. Shut up
2. Put it back in the box/bag/whatever the fuck it was in
3. Get the recipt
4. Go back to the store
5. Return it for cash

IF 5 IS NOT AVAILABLE, SEE 5.B

5b. Get in-store credit

6. Buy something else

Well, I have to say how surprised I was at this set. At first, I couldn't believe it was going to be released in the form it was reported as, but remained hopeful that it was being reported wrongly. Then it was all confirmed and released and I thought it was a real shame that it sounded like not very much.

But I bought it for my brother's xmas and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't as bad as it looks on paper. The great sounding remastered cd (at last!!), the 5.1 mix disc along with visuals plus commentary and the nice booklet and casing. It's nice to have and pleasant to watch and listen to. I would even go as far to say that on listening to the entire DTS 5.1 mix, I didn't really hear anything wrong with it. Though, I haven't compared it to the older 2002 DTS 5.1 mix, so I can't be 100% on that.

And on those saying that there is no documentary included - I can only point them to the Classic Albums docu that Brian and Roger were involved in. Obviously, it was well worth leaving to the CA team as they've done a decent job. Even further on that is that it will be released on dvd early next year.

So... I think the 30th anniversary release is actually pretty decent and fulfills what it intends to do. And the combination of that with the CA docu on tv and now for download here (till it becomes official material, of course), it sounds like they've done enough. A joke? Nah. The joke's on you for thinking like that.

P.S. In fact, even more NATO goodness can be taken from both the BBC3 docu on BoRhap from last year AND the extra on BoRhap included with the GVH1 disc2. Jeez... when you think about what is out there, it really starts to build up. We're quite spoiled, in a way.

Why do people keep complaining about the 30th edition ANATO? i thought it was really good. People would have complained if they hadn't of marked the 30th anniversary and when they do all you can do is complain about it saying how bad it is you're so ungrateful...

No I think we have good cause to complain. Firstly Brian only discusses his songs in any detail and not Freddie's ones like Death On Two legs for example, there is little insight into how the songs were created or produced and the "videos" aren't very inspiring in the slightest. Queen should have released a concert from around that time a proper documnetary into how the album was made in conjunction with the work itself. This package certainly falls short of honouring what was a very fine album.

I just watched it via rental from NetFlix. I liked it, especially the audio commentary of the four. There were a lot of still photos I had not seen before, and clips from concerts I had not seen before, especially Freddie in that snug white leotard. How anyone can dash about on stage in an outfit like that so unself-consciously is beyond me. So slender his hip bones jut out. I became a Queen fan in 2004. I bought an 8-cd set off of eBay which included ANATO. Oddly enough I had never played it because I was watching Queen's dvds. So, Sweet Lady, Seaside Rendezvous, the Prophet's Song, and Good Company were all new to me! '39 with Brian singing most of it in the later years is super. Love Of My Life is poorly edited as far as Freddie's clips go, but there is more piano in it, and the Red Special sounds great. (I'll have to go and listen to the cd to see if that was the original release sound.) Are those old-time, vaudeville-type, movie clips new to this anniversary edition, or had they been used before? They are new to me, and cleverly used. I am not so sure about those flames in front of the BoRhap visuals. BoRhap can stand on its own. In Brian's commentary he mentions that Queen had a great deal of humor in their songs and in the way Queen presented themselves., and that fans recognized the humor. I Want to Break Free video, yes, but otherwise - humor???

Quick question...

To anyone who also has the 1991 Hollywood Records Digital Remaster cd, do you notice any differences between that and this version?
