Maybe you could look to different churches around there. I know ours holds a Monday night supper for anyone who wishes to come. There should be a least one person who can help you, I'd hope. With the holidays coming up, I know stores will want to hire extra help, so maybe they can be a resource, though as you say, hope they don't do credit checks. If you were more local, I could help you more, but I know so little about where you are, so it makes it difficult.

Let us know how you're pulling through. We know you'll make it, even if we have to force it to be that way ;)

Yup. Arlene's problems are the direct fault of George Bush....

Dear Lord is exactly right.

While I feel for Arlene's situation, this is obviously a situation for her that has been in the makings for quite a long, long period of time.

For her to seek this site to pin her problems on the President of the US, who was not by her side to help her make the decisions that she made for the past 15 years is, simply put, asinine.

You, my dear Arlene, need to move to this area, there are plenty of jobs here that seemingly cannot get filled.

That said, blaming George Bush for your problems now, while a popular thing to try to do, is akin to blaming McDonalds for you getting fat.

You will find often that professional students are among the lowest earners in the US....

Try starting a job when you are 22-23, and STAYING there.....

I'd like to help you get back on your feet. I'll be happy to make some phone calls to any job you are interested in on your behalf. I will be able to get around whatever credit checks they might require. In the area Haystacks and I live in, there are 1000s of jobs available and none require credit checks. I help my families get jobs all the time. I also help with budget counseling, housing issues, food assistance, etc.

I'd love to help if you'll let me.

I'm not entirely unsympathetic, but, ya know,... if half of one's day weren't wasted posting on qzone and blogs and myspace or reading magazines over the past nine months, one might have been out and about putting in as many applications at HR offices for as many hours as they could.

Also, some people hold two jobs to survive, or did so at one time to make ends meet. It ain't fun, but it's a living.

Do the above comments make me out to be evil, or just reasonable?

A little of both..;-)
Arlene, I feel really bad for you, as a person.

I would try to help out and get you back on your feet.

So what I'm willing to offer to help you do is, while I DON'T have money myself to give away just yet, I will add a special e-mail address to my PayPal account so that fellow Queenzoners with PayPal will be able to send donations to that e-mail, which then at the end of a certain time/period, I will transfer the donations as is to my bank account, take it out and put it into a (Postal) Money Order (I will pay for the fees out of my paycheque and/or pension money), and send it out your way by registered mail.

Would that sound OK to you?

Let me know, and I'll get on it tomorrow morning.

ED: And don't worry, I won't ask for any favours in return.

Perhaps I missed something, but why can't she do that by herself? Why does she need you to open a PayPal account for her? If I'm not mistaken, it's possible to transfer money from a PayPal account to an American bank account.

In case she doesn't have a bank account of her own that she can deposit money into. (You never know)
I haven't heard back from Arlene yet on my offer to assist with job inquires. In my opinion money should not be sent. I don't think Arlene is asking for money from us anyway. I think she is asking for help with finding a job and this would be the best help any of us could offer. A job will help Arlene fullfill her time, be self-sufficient, and help her to contribute to society. She will feel much better about things if she is able to support herself.

I do not live in Maryland and never have...but there are no credit checks for jobs in my area. If there were, hardly anyone would have employment. Not to mention that credit checks are extremely expensive to run. I am not calling Arlene a liar, but maybe she is misunderstanding something.

Anyhow, my original offer stands. I will make however many long distance calls that are necessary on Arlene's behalf, to jobs that she is interested in. This way I will have a better understanding of why a credit check would be necessary to work at say, Walmart, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, etc. These are all national chains of stores. I've called local management here and they are not able to confirm any company policy of credit checks on potential employees.

Sending money would only be a very short term fix to a much larger problem.

Personally I didn't know that they ran credit checks on people just for applying for a job that doesn't even require any previous experience.

I thought that it was just for applying for credit cards or loans.
[QUOTENAME]<font color=lime>KillerKing840 wrote: [/QUOTENAME]Arlene, I'm sorry to hear... I have a suggestion that probably won't make you rich, but MAYBE could help a bit...

You're a GREAT Queen journalist, and the only decent unofficial news site we've got is Queenzone... So why don't you make your own site, but dedicated only to news? You could make more complete news reports about Queen and put some sponsored links, just like the QZ ones. So you could post your link here so that everybody could see your work and click on the links. Youll be earned for each click. Some people have static IPs, so maybe google will count 1 of their clicks per day, but some people (the same who can fool Rapidshare) could click a bit more often then once a day. Maybe at first it would give you only a few dollars, but maybe after a few weeks, as your site grows, it may give you at least enough to buy all the essential stuff to live and pay your rentals.
That would be a hard work, but it's a good alternative while you don't get a job.
I bet Barbara and Richard would put a link for your site on Queenzone, as you've helped Queenzone A LOT with your news reports. :-)

I hope I was useful...
I ALREADY HAVE....it's my blogspot account and it has film, music, TV celebrity entertainment news...

.... and it has Google ads running on it and so far NO ONE is clicking on it and I have made 31 cents in 6 months.

I POST my blogspot link...UNDER my signature and have sent it to sdeveral Google Search engines and still it is NOT making money and no One clicks on it.

Richard ALREADY knows about my blogspot entertainment news site and has offered help about search engines.

But...I can't force people to click on it and...

...Google has a VERY strict form that I had to complete and sign that says I am NOT allowed to instruct or tell people who go on my website..to CLICK on the ads, they MUST do it on their own.

Google will SHUT down their ads if they audoit/review the website and see any instructions telling people to click. They must voluntarily click on the website.

This is my website, and has been for over 6 months now. Have none of you noticed?
