lipsynch or use a backup tape?

On the GH2 DVD disc 2, in the "Montreaux Rock Festival", it sounds almost exact to a studio recording.

It could have been edited but you tell me.

Your bloody correct man i always thought that Freddie lipsynch on that performance his lips would move at the wrong time....
It sounded just like the tape.
Apparently at the Montreux POP festival you had to lip synch. As you can clearly see, Freddie used this to his best advantage...

Why did you HAD to?
Yep, Queen wanted to perform live, but the organisers wouldn't let them. Not quite sure why, but those were the rules. So i think Fred went out of his way to make sure that they couldn't be accused of trying to pretend they were live.

it's interesting footage, but you really miss the fact that it's not live. To see them perform in such a small venue at that point would have been great

It's like when they did the small concerts for the fans at video shoots (like for Champions or Friends Will Be Friends) - wouldn't it be great if there was video footage of that? Queen in the latter years, but live in front of a small audience. Better to have been there, but would be great for a box set (hint hint...)
Tatterdemalion and the junketer There's a thief and a dragonfly trumpeter
I wasn't aware that Queen performed a concert for the fans at the shooting of 'Friends Will Be Friends'.
san remo 84´ was lipsynch
She was my lover It was a shame that she died But the constitution´s right on my side Cos I cought my lover in my neighbours bed I got retribution, filled´em full of lead
I think Roger sang Radio Ga Ga with back up tape (at least, the percussion part) in the first part of the song, in the last QPR show in Los Angeles. If true, very disappointing.

On the current tour, they use backing tapes for the drum parts on the first part of Radio Ga Ga and on These Are The Days. Can't complain about it - RGG really needs a front-man singing it, rather than from behind the kit; These Are the Days doesn't really suffer from it either.
It's not like they're miming it - it's very obvious that it's playback.

And yes, the Montreux footage is hilarious with Freddie's supposed "miming"!

David
Yeah, now I know I'm not crazy. Did they do that at the bowl or Wembley or anywhere else?

2x Montreux, San Remo, all TV appearances.

No miming at any TRUE concert, ever.
Yea i noticed that they were "miming" at the Montreaux festival too, cuz on many parts Fred isnt even singing into the microphone at all, and yet theres a sound coming out, and it sounds j/ like from their records, because they never replicated their sound live, because they felt then the point of live performance was indeed pointless because ppl could j/ stay home and listen to the records.
Maybe Freds vocal cord nodules were acting up that day??
Or like someone already said, they Had too... Which is a dumb rule if u ask me, i think Ghandi's saying of "Stupid rules are meant to be broken" should have applied there, but whaddya gonna do?
But it would have been a treat tho in that small venue to have them playing live.
all songs deffo mimed at Montreux, but his mic is on in between songs....you can hear him

It seemed like Freddie was miming "Impromptu" at the Wembley. It just seems awkward if you watch it.
