I think Freddie wrote the best songs, the ones that really stood out e.g BR, MW MOTBQ, DSMN but Brian wrote the least bad songs if you see what I'm getting at. He was very consistent and I like all of his apart from the bland folk stuff he used to write and Machines' Back To Humans.
Lyrically, Brian is excellent. I think Roger's written some weak ones e.g Action This Day, Rock It (Prime Jive), Don't lose Your head but then again he was behind such classics as Sheer Heart Attack, TATDOOL and Radio Ga ga so they were all good I think.

I can't decide between them because their styles are so different. Freddie's complexity was amazing. No one wrote better pop songs within the group than John. And Brian's songs are always lyrically incredible. I do think, however, that Roger's songs were consistently weaker than the others'.

After that he was pretty naff apart from about 3 songs - a steep decline.

Freddie, he was one in a million!! He used to say that he hated to write lyrics, but the way he wrote them are amazing. He wrote many songs in parables. Sometimes without a meaning or to difficult to understand....What is Lily of the Valley about? talking about kingdomes and serpents, Galileos and figaros on Bo Rha; he thought he was a banana tree and 1001 yellow daffodils were dancing in front of us (uh?) 'Slightly Mad', etc etc. His mind was simply a step above the rest....
"White Queen" shows poetic prowess comparable to just about any great poet, lyricist, etc. I have yet to experience. It's my absolute favorite when it comes to that. It definitely takes the cake in the genre of rock, or all of popular music, and that is for sure.
To start off, this is the only band I can think of (correct me if you can think of any others) where all the main members actually all write their own, non-collaborative music. In fact, each has their own #1 song. That is pretty damn impressive. Most major bands have 1 or 2 at most members writing all the music. The Who, Townshend wrote all, Stones, Richards and Jagger, Led Zepp, mostly Page, etc. To answer the other question, I think Freddie's earlier stuff was very different and raw, which I like, but Brian's to me is the best. Just an opinion.

yes I agree. I thought get Down make Love started it. That said I think his writing on Jazz is super. From The Game I only like the title track from Hot Space I don't really like anything he wrote, from The Works I like It's A Hard Life and Keep Passing The Open Windows and from AKOM just Princes Of The Universe. I don't know why his writing went off- mayb eit was his lifestyle or the funk direction he explored. It' was a shame though.
