Red Special's sixpence

Does anyone know if the sixpence on the headstock of the real red special is just a sixpence? or is it one of the special minted 'Brian May Sixpences' ?

also, does anyone know or have any reasonable ideas as to how it is fixed on there?

Has the headstock been bored, routed, and the coin then glued and inserted into the recess? Or simply stuck on with maybe epoxy resin?

Haven't seen a real close up but I think it is just stuck on from what I have seen.

Does anyone know of any decent pics of the headstock on the real deal?

It's one of those sixpences with Brian's head on it. (Don't know if it is a '93 or a '98 one...)
(The side with Brian's head is on top)

And yes, the headstock has been incraved a bit with the coin glued inside.

'98 sixpence? Whats that?

In 1993 they first produced these tour-souvenir sixpences with Brian's head on it. It has the words 'Brian May back to the light' on it.
For the 1998 tour a new bash was produced, this time with the year 1998 on it.
In 2005 for QPR tour yet another one was pressed. This time with 'Queen + Paul Rodgers 2005' on it.

Damn, I dont have a 1998 one! Are they Royal Mint, or the more medal type like the 2004 & 2005 ones?

Apart from the text, the 1998 one is exactly the same as the 2005 one.

I have never heard of a 1998 Brian May sixpence. I always thought that Brian put the (Royal Mint) sixpence on his guitar in 1998?

There is a picture on Brianmay.com along with the story and to me it looks like a normal sixpence coin but it's pretty worn.

That looks like it's inside the guitar near the output jack, not the headstock. It also looks like it's covered by a layer of copper or something. Wonder what it's for...

That picture is indeed from the INSIDE of the body of the guitar, near the socket.

We meant the one he put on the headstock for decoration. (headstock is the end; where the tune-pins are ;-)

Okay, I thought the picture on brianmay.com is also about this sixpence on the headstock (actually, the story did not make too much sense for me, the English is too technical). That leaves the question about the 1998 Brian May sixpence. Have you ever seen one? I thought there are only the 1993 BTTL merchandise coins and then the 2004 coins from Las Vegas /2005 coins from the tour.

Sixpence wise there is only the 1993 BTTL, 2004 WWRY & 2005 QPR editions?

I think Brian explained the reason for the real sixpence inside the body on the soapbox a while back.

Good trivia question that now, how many sixpences are on the Red Special?!

unless there are more?!
I assume though that the one inside is a real sixpence and not a Brian May special edition, Brian says that he put it in there 'many years ago'
