If you think about it the guy couldn't write his own music.
He did write some of his own music.
A lot of "artists" claim to write their own music, but we all know that even a 3 year old can come up with the lyrics to a song.
The real music writing comes from others.
What proof do you have that he didn't write any music? I mean, I could say that about Brian May. Maybe he didn't write anything and just claimed to have. I would think that the true author would've exposed him because he would want the royalties from the song.
As far as I'm concerned there were no writing credits for Elvis for other than 'Love Me Tender' (which was co-written). I could be wrong, but I'm sure that if he wrote anything, it was probably a few songs.
The saddest part is that back in the 50s America had such a racial stigma, that if Elvis was black he wouldn't have been as successful due to media overhype as he was. There were plenty of black performers and musicians in those days that were far more talented than Elvis.
