No intro, I've decided, I'm just going post this for people who maybe curious.

TRACK HISTORY

“Space” – Recorded in 1998
- Written to reflect the self-healing and self-protecting exercises he learned as part of his “therapy” in dealing with his depression (the lyrics are one specific phrase to be intoned while feeling pressured from without)

“Business” – Recorded in 1993
- Final album mix in 1997 or 1998
- Originally titled “Hard Business” for Frank Stubbs Promotes (1993)
- 19 mixes were done by 1997
- Became “The Business (Rock On Cozy Mix)” in 1998 for the single
- Simply titled “Business” for the album

“China Belle” – Recorded in 1997
- written in March 1997, after a trip to Mongolia, to observe a solar eclipse
- Brian is somewhat guarded in interviews about who or what this song is about, but it’s obvious the trip through Mongolia had an impact on him

“Why Don’t We Try Again” – Recorded in 1998
- Originally written for Queen, but Brian decided to hold onto it.
- No Queen demo ever recorded

“On My Way Up” – Recorded in 1994
- Final album mix in 1997 or 1998
- Recorded for Frank Stubbs 2nd Season (1994)

“Cyborg” – Recorded in 1995
- Final album mix in 1998
- Recorded for Rise II – Resurrection video game (1995)
- The standard and Director’s Cut editions of the game feature the following versions:
- “Cyborg (Rise II Main Version)”
- “Cyborg (Rise II Solo Instrumental)”
- “Cyborg (Rise II Main Version Remix)” (Director’s Cut only)
- “Cyborg (Rise II Main Version Instrumental Remix)” (Director’s Cut only)

“The Guv’ner” – Recorded in 1997 and 1998
- Originally written for a film project of the same name, which fell through
- Most of the song was recorded in 1997, Jeff Beck’s lead guitar re-recorded in 1998

“Wilderness” – Recorded in 1998
- Written specifically for Another World, about Brian’s feelings of being far from who he wishes he could be as a rock star
- Wasn’t going to finish the song, but Justin Shirley-Smith had faith it would be good when done

“Slow Down” – Recorded in 1996
- Originally recorded for Brian’s defunct Heroes album (the immediate pre-cursor project to Another World)
- A cover of the Larry Williams song
- Recorded in a session with Cozy Powell, Neil Murray, Spike Edney and Jamie Moses

“One Rainy Wish” – Recorded in 1995
- Final album mix in 1998
- Recorded for the Jimi Hendrix tribute album In From The Storm (1995)
- Was also to appear on Heroes
- Re-mixed for Another World

“All The Way From Memphis” – Recorded in 1996
- Recorded for the Mott The Hoople tribute album Moth Poet Hotel (1996)
- Was also to appear on Heroes

“Another World” – Recorded in 1997
- Written for the film Sliding Doors, but the producers were unable to use it because another record company was co-financing the film.
- Became the thematic thread for the album after Brian realized an album of covers (Heroes) was the wrong direction for him

“Untitled” – Recorded in 1998
- Written around the melody of “Business”

Retro Rock Special EP:

“Whatever Happened To Saturday Night?” – Recorded in 1995
- Recorded January or February for the N.S.O. Ensemble cast recording of their production of The Rocky Horror Show (1995)
- Was also to appear on Heroes
- Properly titled “Hot Patootie (Bless My Soul)” and originally performed by Meat Loaf

“Maybe Baby” - Recorded in 1996
- Recorded in the same session as “Slow Down” and “Only Make Believe”
- Was also to appear on Heroes
- A cover of the Buddy Holly song

“F.B.I.” - Recorded in 1997
- Recorded with Status Quo, who were unaccredited, at the same session as “It’s Raining In My Heart”
- A cover of The Shadows track
- Appeared on Twang! A Tribute To Hank Marvin (1997)
- Was also to appear on Heroes

“Only Make Believe” – Recorded in 1996
- Recorded in the same session as “Slow Down” and “Maybe Baby”
- Was also to appear on Heroes
- A cover of the Conway Twitty song

Any idea what album 'Why Don't We Try Again' might have been for? I presume Innuendo, but that makes me think that Brian would have recorded it for Back To The Light.

All I was able to find out from scouring interviews and such with Brian was that it was written "a few years ago" for Queen, but he decided to keep it for himself. My best guess is Innuendo as well, but knowing Brian it could have been written much earlier. The man's notorious for such long gaps between writing, recording and releasing.

Very true - took him nearly five years (1969 - 1973) to get 'White Queen' recorded.

This is a very interesting thread as it is; I kind of had an inkling that Brian was going to do a covers album (in fact, I remember reading that sometime in 1996 or so, I think), but this also explains the disjointed feel of Another World. Part of me wishes he had finished the Heroes project, it would've been interesting to see what else he had in mind with that. Damn you, Roger!

I don't want to sound unappreciative, but you don't have any other information similar to this for other projects, do you? I only ask because it's threads like this that keep me coming back to Queenzone day after day.

I'm actually working on a larger project similar to this for Queen and solo recordings. The work on THAT directly led to my research on Another World. I was so enthralled by what I found about AW's back-story, I figured I'd share it, and see what response I got.

Since you guys like it, I'll start diseminating some other similar threads in the future.

It's a lot of sorting and checking and rechecking facts and dates and information. You'd be surprised how often inconsistencies creep up and repeat through websites, until no one bothers to figure out the error.

Anyhow, I'll post more stuff like this, seeing as how people are diggin' it!

Oh, and as to what else he had in mind...one interview mentions a potential Elvis cover, as he was talking about his heroes growing up.

I doubt any such cover was recorded, as no other mention or rumor ever surfaced about an Elvis-cover track. It was probably just at the idea stage ("What other song do I want to do?") before he abandoned that concept.

I just hope THIS post doesn't start any such rumors!

Thank you Rhyeking, that's excellent stuff. I love the idea of 'Heroes', 'tis a shame that he never completed it. Think I'll start a thread of covers I'd like to see Brian do.

Now the cynic in me: do you have sources for this information? Most I remember, but the nugget about Why Don't We Try Again is new. Just curious what interviews this stuff came from.

Correct. Indeed, lyircs have been changed from the "project" version to the AW one.

Brian himself said in a queen-fip.com chat (July 1998) that this instrumental version of "Business" is officially called "Being On My Own"

I´m sorry but I think that this info is not correct. As far as I know Brian has played all the instruments on FBI.

According to Andy's Queen Page ( www.pemcom.demon.co.uk/queen/world/fbi.html ), the personnel for 'F.B.I.':

Brian: lead guitar, drums, bass
Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi: rhythm guitar

Thanks very much for this info. It is a great album, and I really hope one day we will get another fantastic solo album from Mr. May, but I guess that's doubtful?
