Brian May 'Heroes' 2006

As discussed by rhyeking, Brian was going to do an alboum of covers called 'Heroes', which got sidetracked and ended up being 'Another world.' I thought I'd like to see Brian do an album of covers and we'd get him started. So...

Here's the deal. Songs that Brian would have a connection to, either historically or spiritually. No sense saying you'd like to see him do 'Bootylicious' or 'Hit me baby one more time.' If you can give reason why he should cover it, all the better. Here's my list.

1. To love somebody (Bee Gees): Brian is a big harmony guy, and I think that this song would be a perfect fit for him.

2. Eleanor Rigby (Beatles): Love to see this with the Red Special handling the string parts.

3. Yesterday (Beatles): An old fave of Brian's, that he used to sing in the halls as a schoolboy.

4. Calley Oh (Billy Squier): Brian was supposed to produce Tale of the Tape for Billy Squier but couldn't due to time issues. This is his favourite Squier track, and it has a nice lyrical, May-ian harmony solo.

5. Irene Wilde (Ian Hunter): Great tune from the 70s about first love.

6. Never, never (Assembly): One off project from Yaz and Erasure's Vince Clarke, with Feargal Sharkey on fragile vocals.

7. Tell her this (Del Amitri): Skiffly, open tuned acoustic number with superb vocals.

8. I Wonder (Nuno Bettencourt): From Nuno's solo album, song about impending death and the afterlife, with the most faithful to Brian solo ever recorded.

1. "Yesterday"- definitelly, apparently a "big hit" in old '1984' days... ;)
2. "Purple Haze"- they also used to play that one, I think if managed to sing it like he sang Ressurection it could be a killer...!
3. "Before You Accuse Me"- there has to be a Clapton song- and I'd love to hear him covering THAT one
4. "Apache"- F.B.I. was IMO fantastic, want another guitar tune ;)
5. "Sunshine Of Your Love"- Clapton again- and Red Special playing this heavy riff... dreaming...
6. "Lucille"- Queen did it, 1984 used to do it- Brian could do it as well :)
7. "Substitute"- Brian said many times that in his opinion Who were a better band than Queen... And he did perform this song with 1984
8. "Don't Say You Love Me"- Brian's a huge Paul Rodgers and Free fan, right? This track comes from FIRE & WATER album, Brian's fav and it's probably the only one there he could sing- beautigful bluesy abllad
9. "I Feel Fine"- another Beatles track he used to play with 1984- AND remember Manchester 1986? ;)
10. "Parisienne Walkways"- Thin Lizzy they toured with, Gary Moore supported them... and what a great track for a guitarist!
11. "Jailhouse Rock / Stupid Cupid / Be Bob A Lula / Jailhouse Rock (reprise)"- wouldn't THAT be fantastic? ;)

I have this project of making a band to cover rock n' roll (mostly) american classics... Brian doing it would be a million times cooler, so here is my set list for my project... or a brian's project...

-Rockin' all over the world: Status Quo. (Close friends of Roger and Queen).

-Cat Scratch Fever: Ted Nugent. (Perfect for Brian, very Rocky tune).

-Proud Mary: Creedence Clearwater Revival. (Queen Alrerady did a Creedence song, Hello Mary Lou).

-Down On The Corner: Creedence. (An underrated classic).

-Day Tripper: Beatles.

-Imagine: John Lennon (It would be cool to hear as it was played in Hyde Park, with the 3 voices).

-Radar Love (I dont remember the band).

-Hot Blooded (???).

-Jailhouse Rock: Elvis.

-Dirty Deeds: AC DC.

-Milk Cow Blues: A blues Classic from the 30's, Aerosmith and Ted Nuggent used to play.

-Roadhouse Blues : The Doors.

-Layla : Eric Clapton.

-Money Talks: AC DC

-Wont get Fooled Again: The Who.

That's already available on The Brian May Band - Live At Brixton Academy.

Also agree with Fenderek. I love Dr Mays' version of FBI. How about an album of Shadows covers?
