Im not accusing you of anything but we could all be better off using less oil.
I spend about $15 on gas a month because I ride my bike almost everywhere and only use my car if I have to pick someone else up.
And believe me, I'd like to see that "friend" of mine off the site.

Adults with families and jobs do not "joy ride." I go from required point A to point B. Believe me, the less time I spend on the road with the other idiots, the better. I take my son to the babysitter, my daughter to school, and myself to work. That is 99% of my driving.
There are no trains here to use. The nearest bus stop is probably 5 miles from my house. I can't ask my 2 yr old and my 7 yr old to walk 5 miles to take a bus that would probably take me 20 miles out of the way to get me to a bus stop 5 more miles from my destination. The transportaion system in the US is not like in Europe.

It's great to hear that gas prices are skyrocketing. Not only will that convince *some people* to finally start using their cars a bit less, thus saving what little nature is left on the planet, but it will also boost interest in alternative methods of powering transportation, such as hydrogen-combustion and hydrogen-fuel cells.

Caspar your comment assumes we overuse our cars...the fact is that most people only use when they need to...it's not like we all go out and race around the highways and ringroads of our cities just to burn fossil fuels for fun you know

That doesn't make it any less polluting. And you have to admit that cars are being overused. I can see so in Holland, and I have seen so in England, Belgium, Germany and France. I assume it is the same in the US and the rest of the world.
Still, it's vital that we research the alternatives more, and the outrageous fuel-prices will definitely stimulate that.

I hope the Arabs set fire to all the oil. Sure, it might screw up the environment, but then us Westerners will never get our fucking hands on it. We'll only do the same damage, but over a much longer period of time. Then the onus will be on the rest of the world to find an alternative.
You can start this Snowball of Kickarse by burning any oil refineries you see. Failing that, write letters. Or, when you have to blow out your birthday candles, wish for all the fossil fuel to disappear.
