"Ok I remember now, 'knee-jerk assholes' and all that... hahaha."

I give up. FURTHER back, fule....

"You'd love for me to be some dimwitted teenager wouldn't you?"

I wouldn't insult teenagers.

"And if it's a crime, or a waste of time to write long posts on the internet, you're guilty too! In this respect, aren't we simply two pathetic people wasting time on each other?"

I ummmm don't remember raising that point either.

"And I'm noticing an awful pattern! There's all these virtual cromagnons chasing me around this forum asking me to jump in front of buses and telling me I'm a fool"

I ummm don't remember asking you to do that either. It's as much your right to make the jump as it is to write hysterical, innaccurate posts.

"Hah, and you joked that I should get my parents to explain certain things to me."

Ummmm....no again. I said they probably wouldn't allow you to play with matches.

Do you just make this up as you go along?

"I tell you, I think there are things your parents never bothered telling YOU, sir!"

I doubt it. But I like the respect you show.

This post started with SOMEONE else giving it "oohh Roger is playing for the fox hunters", when actually, the Countryside Alliance is not all about fox-hunting.

I won't give up on this point, because learning will make you a more rounded individual. Tolerance will help you develop too.

The Countryside Alliance AREN'T cave people. They're a highly organised lobbying group. They represent rural dwellers who see their lifestyle, homes, job opportunities, schools, and so on, being stripped away by a city-centric system of governance.

And yes, some of them lobby on behalf of hunting.

Roger lives in the countryside.

Roger is part (when he's there) of a countryside economy.

Roger probably doesn't like seeing rural England being stripped away by developers out to make a profit on throwing up crap Barrett homes at every cul-de-sac.

And he may even like fox-hunting.

He may be getting paid. He may be doing it as a favour to Dave Gilmour. He may be doing nothing better that day.

But until he says he does strap on the jodphurs and smear himself with fox blood, don't "drop him in your estimation" simply because one issue out of forty or fifty doesn't fit with your rose-tinted, "right-on", uneducated (in this instance) mentality.
"Just tryin' to have a little fun, folks..."
"I give up. FURTHER back, fule...."

But that was your first post in the thread? I've truly missed this one, my apologies. Maybe "further back" as you put it, there was some sign language or something.

"I wouldn't insult teenagers."

But it's fun!

"I ummmm don't remember raising that point either."

But I am. Telling me to get out more, basically equates to telling me that I'm wasting my time here, which happens to be something you're doing as well. It's not that big a jump to make really.

"I ummm don't remember asking you to do that either."

When did it become ok.computerZone? There are other posters here too. It was an anecdote.

"It's as much your right to make the jump as it is to write hysterical, innaccurate posts."

Thank God I never invoked the latter right.

"Ummmm....no again. I said they probably wouldn't allow you to play with matches."

My mistake, but really... 'get a parent to help' and 'your parents won't let you play with matches' aren't all that different.

"Do you just make this up as you go along?"

Actually, yes, most of the time. I'm BORED damnit, it's the only way to relieve the monotony.

"I doubt it. But I like the respect you show."

Respect is earned. I've done little to earn yours, and you've done little to earn mine, and in a cause-and-effect way, your parents have done even less. They went and made *you*.

"This post started with SOMEONE else giving it "oohh Roger is playing for the fox hunters", when actually, the Countryside Alliance is not all about fox-hunting."

Not 'all about fox-hunting', duh. I can respect that, but what if they support it, even a little bit? Fair enough, maybe a good cull here and there would help the environment, but the fashion in which it's done shits me. And they can't police everyone. Sure, maybe 89% of people who shoot foxes are mature and responsible about it, but you'll always get the odd wacko and that was what worried me. Those are the ones I was talking about.

"I won't give up on this point, because learning will make you a more rounded individual. Tolerance will help you develop too."

Tolerance is BUNK. It's respect we should be chasing. How patronising is it to walk up to a Muslim, for instance, and say 'I tolerate you'. What bullshit.

"The Countryside Alliance AREN'T cave people."

But can you speak for hundreds and thousands of people and say there's not a single one in there? Maybe there is. I was merely pointing out that remote possibility, that maybe there's some people in there who don't do it right.

"They're a highly organised lobbying group. They represent rural dwellers who see their lifestyle, homes, job opportunities, schools, and so on, being stripped away by a city-centric system of governance."

Good on 'em, but I don't see how this noble platform relates to hunting.

"And yes, some of them lobby on behalf of hunting."

That was what I was discussing, the hunting, and the manner in which it's done.
Look don't be surprised, I feel guilty when I squish ants by accident, so I can't help it if I at least want the foxes/hedgehogs/gypsies to be dealt with properly.

"Roger lives in the countryside."

Hahhah, I would too if it wasn't so far from Zenith's.

"Roger is part (when he's there) of a countryside economy."

Sure... pitchfork and all.
Actually - does Roger farm or do rural shit? I've never read up on that before.
Well heck, he once held the group distinction of being one of the 4 highest paid executives in Britain... he probably *IS* the rural economy.

Just jokes.

"Roger probably doesn't like seeing rural England being stripped away by developers out to make a profit on throwing up crap Barrett homes at every cul-de-sac."

What has hunting got to do with this? I was only ever annoyed at
""Do you just make this up as you go along?""

"Actually, yes, most of the time."

Well that really explains it all, and shows that there really *is* very little point in trying to debate with you any further.

"Respect is earned. I've done little to earn yours, and you've done little to earn mine, and in a cause-and-effect way, your parents have done even less. They went and made *you*."

Yeah, but calling me "sir" sure sends out the right message to your elders. Also, I didn't sink so low as insulting your parents. And I don't deign to now.

[oh SNIP, fer fuck's sake, you're off on one again...after awhile watching you flitter around in ever-decreasing self-imposed little circles becomes tiresome]

"But you *admitted* that they support hunting."

I "admitted" nothing. There was no admission to be made. Even a neanderthal like you can make that distinction. All you need is a Webster's (that's a dictionary, by the way), and your forefinger to underline the hard words with. Once it's out from your left nostril.

What I did was cut-and-paste from the organisation's website. You might even have a look yourself, and look at the other issues they support.

You might even spoil yourself and see *why* they support hunting.

It may illuminate your view on the organisation, what it does, why it does it, and what situations in countries other than your own little patch of arrid wasteland are actually like.

Your view on tolerance really *does* sum up what is wrong with the world, and why you probably won't go and check it out.

I'll bid you farewell on this topic. I can see that you're the sort of little fellow that so loves the last word.

Who would I be to deny those less fortunate?

Depends on how DD's Roger is popular, I guess... If not as such as ours - they'll note he's from Duran Duran. IMHO.
DD's isn't popular. I've asked people (non-Queen fans) who Roger Taylor is and they say 'a guy from Queen'... never mentioned DD
"Please buy my upcoming album... I need the money"
Excellent, you won't be reading this, but I'll do it for completeness.

"Well that really explains it all, and shows that there really *is* very little point in trying to debate with you any further."

Debate? I pointed out I was just having a bit of fun. I think I touched a nerve! (Actually no I don't, but anyway).

"Yeah, but calling me "sir" sure sends out the right message to your elders. Also, I didn't sink so low as insulting your parents. And I don't deign to now."

When I say 'sir', don't think "navy guy talking to the Admiral". Think McCoy berating Spock.

"I "admitted" nothing. There was no admission to be made."

Gah okay whatever. Having gotten that bit of semantics out of the way, the fact is you did say they supported hunting, and I said I didn't have a problem with that so long as it was done properly. You are being unfair.

"Even a neanderthal like you can make that distinction."

I am most certainly not a neanderthal.

"All you need is a Webster's (that's a dictionary, by the way), and your forefinger to underline the hard words with. Once it's out from your left nostril."

Forefinger's busy at the moment, but here's the middle one you fuckwit.

"It may illuminate your view on the organisation, what it does, why it does it..."

I already took a look, very illuminating and very boring. Look - that's their line of work. I wouldn't ask a farmer to look at a book of guitar tableture.

"...and what situations in countries other than your own little patch of arrid wasteland are actually like."

There are *20 million* people who disagree with your utterly boneheaded little statement here. You shit in the face of many fine people (and many not-so-fine-ones) when you say shit like that!
See - I wasn't picking on a whole country, my beef was with a couple of irresponsible people I've seen on the telly occasionally doing the wrong thing. And you think I'm the neanderthal? Hahahaha. You haven't got a fucking clue.

"Your view on tolerance really *does* sum up what is wrong with the world, and why you probably won't go and check it out."

Guh... I said tolerance wasn't enough. Tolerance is a cop-out - if you're only willing to tolerate and not respect people, then what's the point? I'd rather ignore people if the most human thing I can say is 'I tolerate you'. It's very simple. Surely you understand that?

And if you're wondering why I did a backflip by not really respecting you it's because of your overreaction and utter ignorance towards any view that isn't "shoot everything". All I wanted was a slightly better treatment of the 'hunting' situation but you couldn't even see past your stupid superiority-complex to understand that. Then you took a big fat dump on my country. Very fucking nice.

"I'll bid you farewell on this topic. I can see that you're the sort of little fellow that so loves the last word."

Hahaha. I seriously considered not replying, because the conversation has run it's course. But I'm not a little fellow, you leave me with the wrong impression Admiral- I mean, Sir. And it's *so cheap* to say 'well I won't respond, you love to have the last word...' I could've done that, couldn't I? Pa-thetic. But you're not reading this, thank God.

"Who would I be to deny those less fortunate?"

(Sotto Carlin) Pure bull-shit. You are a miserable specimen, sirrah, here's hoping you have an argument with a bunch of European wasps or something.
"And probably the picture. The Angry Young Man"

...

What picture?

If this is a picture of me that I've put somewhere, may I be the first to inform you that it was probably *a joke* picture; I can think of one off the top of my head that's on my site (not that you would've bothered with it, I only put it up for some buddies of mine who play Myth) where I am playing a Hofner with a perturbed look on my face.

Yeah. Joke picture.
[QUOTENAME]Haystacks Calhoun wrote: [/QUOTENAME]Exactly. I do not agree with Bruce Springsteen's politics, but I still RESPECT him, both as an artist, and a human.
This statement, positive as you intended, doesn't make complete sense. One's political beliefs can define much of who they are as a person, especially when their beliefs are so strong - example, Bruce Springsteen. So I can't quite see how you can still respect him so highly as a human being if you would fundamentally disagree with him on nearly anything you'd discuss.

"So I can't quite see how you can still respect him so highly as a human being if you would fundamentally disagree with him on nearly anything you'd discuss."

That depends on one's definition of respect. If it's "shut-up-and-don't-try-to-argue-about-things-they'll-never-change-their-mind-on", then it's an easy thing to do. To be honest, I think it's better to argue with people. I think it's a sign of respect that you'll badmouth them and get to the heart of the issue, rather than just keeping it all hidden and pretending you agree 100%.
It's a sign of respect that you'll tell 'em what you really think, even if it happens to be less-than-pleasant.
