Just wanted to make sure everyone understand that two members of Queen thought that they would have to tour in clubs when returning to the U.S. Instead they didn't do that, theaters, OR auditoriums. They went straight into colliseums AND they have been succesful at it too! ...and this was TWENTY FIVE YEARS after not touring here AT ALL! I know of NO act that has done that...and need I remind you all...all WITHOUT Freddie Mercury! Which means that they need to tour here more on this tour over the next few months. There are no excuses! No more "Queen aren't popular enough in the U.S." comments from fans or the group. This shoud be done for this tour and not a new l.p. YET. Obviously there is more work to be done to raise the interest level and there are many places in the U.S. where they have not toured yet. We need to get people talking about them doing more dates here in the U.S. of A. as well...
Why shouldn't this be taken as far as possible?!

Ain't that somethin? Brian commented on his website that we in Chicago were one of the loudest, energetic crowds, and yet... oddly, one of the smallest... some 6,000 less than several other cities. Whassupwiddat?

The fact that the AllState Arena is a tin can (although largely improved from the early 80's) had something to do with it.
Actually the chicago show did very well as far as gross $$ is concerned.

Given the sales on The Darkness second album, they may be happy to have the work. On the other hand, given the comments about Brian May and the Q+PR tour made by Justin Hawkins earlier in the year, they may find themselves off the opening act short list.

I wasn't aware of any bad comments by Justin Hawkins. One Way Ticket To Hell And Back has a couple of good songs; the title track is great.

The media response surprises me as well. The vibe seems to be spectacularly good at almost every show. I think that's partly due to the fact, that everyone was so desperately waiting for them to play live again, that it caused additional intensity at almost every gig. And honestly, from my own experience in europe: even though the stadium in cologne was only about 65% full, the atmosphere was FANTASTIC !

But given Brian May's fairly thin skin, I don't expect to see much love exchanged between the two bands in the near future.

Not to completely hijack the thread, but I'm pretty sure Justin said what he was quoted as saying (i.e. "Brian May is destroying Queen's legacy by turning it into a karaoke band" or some such), which was after their no-show at the Hyde Park concert last summer. The Brian May "Oh I think The Darkness are great" style comments dried up thereafter. How they actually feel about each other is certainly open to speculation, but the guy did pretty well diss Brian May very publicly, so that much isn't so much a "story" as it is just what happened. I'm pretty sure the quote got some lively Queenzone discussion going at the time, so if the search feature worked, you could check it out. Maybe someone reading remembers ...?
