I cannot agree with you about the album being overrated. As a whole I like the album very much and as a whole I certainly rank this albus being one of my favourites.
However, the album contains a few songs a absolutely dislike. I cannot stand listening to loser in the end, it has this 'cowbell' like sound in it, which I really hate. The other song I stronly dislike is funny how love is, indeed there are too many repetitions. I'd rather see this song lasting two minutes or so and nevermore twice as long...

Yeah, I think it is overrated. It's good, but IMHO not as good as people seem to think.
Quite simply the best Queen album, bar none.
I think, by the general public, it's very underrated. It was my #7-ish purchase of Queen CD-ness. I didn't know anything about it and was wary about waiting the week to get something so obscure.
Now, Queen II is one of my favourites. I couldn't say what one is really my favourite - it's all about how I'm feeling. At the moment, I've got no choice to listen to QII over and over since half my Queen CD's were confiscated due to a dreadful curtain-opening mishap.
I wouldn't say QII is their "best" musical work. First, I just don't know enough about music/theory/thing to judge that. I do think that the musical "idea" of "March of the Black Queen" is 'smoother' in "Bohemian Rhapsody" (don't know what the dickens I'm talking about, but MotBQ always reminded me of BR, just a little less "polished" and "together".). And second, I like other, later, albums just as much. There is no run-away victor in my personal taste and opinon.
It's all up to the person. You don't have to like an album because other people do, or dislike it for the same reason.

Everybody can have their opinion according to their taste. One can prefer We Will Rock You to Bo Rhap, but everyone (I hope) agrees that Bohemian Rhapsody is musically better.
Well that's it with Queen II. Musically, it's a winner, one of the richest and finest albums by any rock band that you can hear. But then again, you don't have to prefer QII, to The Works because of this...

Baa, I don't actually pick favorite songs or l.p.s. Obviously I suppose some are better than others compared to artist to artist but I myself love quite all the Queen l.p.s about the same...yes that includes "Queen II", "The Game", and "News Of The World" though again I can't say which are better.
how can an album be overated if it's never mentioned by the average rock fan!...overated albums include nirvana's nevermind or guns n roses albums.

it’s not to compare marillion and queen but
if you listen to these albums from beginning ti end they get a feeling.

Queen II takes the listener on a journey that stimulates the imagination and challenges many ideas music lovers born after 1976 have about music and what albums and songs can do. Queen did not simply record a bunch of songs and slap them on some vinyl and call it done. They carefully and painstaking sculpted a audio experience while pushing the limits of the technology and recording techniques of the time. That sounds so cliche a thing to say, but it is true. The flow of the songs is virtually uninterrupted, creating pieces that are more like classical movements then simply "the next song on the album".
