If they were paid regular salaries for the jobs they're doing, their take home - after taxes and insurance - could be equal or less than what they're making now.
And I'm not buying the argument that Americans don't want those jobs. It's simple economics. Companies know they can hire these people without having to pay employer taxes, worker's comp, etc. It saves them a bundle. It's called greed. And then they pay below the minimum with a take it or leave it attitude. Illegals are not entitled to more, so they accept the offer.
Americans don't have these jobs because all I just said (and more, I'm sure), makes it impossible for law-abiding, tax-paying Americans to survive with those jobs and the financial conditions attached to them. And face it, if these illegals were ‘documented workers’, do you really think they’d settle for those jobs or that pay?

Truth for some perhaps, but not all. My great-grandparents came here legally. It was torture for them, but they hoped for a better life for their children. They did everything by the book, struggled and saved, learned the language, did jobs 'nobody else wanted', took home meager wages and provided their descendents with a proud lineage.

Second of all, I'm by no means in pro of allowing ALL illegal immigrants to stay here. As I mentioned before, perhaps some illegal immigrants who already speak english and have proof of living here might deserve a shot to become legal residents ( some of them have been here for decades ).
The truth of the matter is that illegal immigrants have made it more difficult for people who actually expect to receive legal residence to come to this country. So in many ways, they brought this upon themselves, and shouldn't complain if they don't speak english and are being deported.

My dad's close Brazilian friend finally got his citizenship about a half a year ago. He went through a lot of work to properly learn the English language before coming to the US, he had to study more US history than they make American children learn at school, and had to commute to the US back and forth from Brazil where he is building a home for his mother (I think, or maybe it's just for him...not sure). It took him years of hard work to get his citizenship. And it angers him so much when he sees other people living in America that cannot even speak English. I can totally understand why he gets upset like that after everything he did. I agree with him. If you want to live in the US, you should do it legally with all the work required.
But I also agree with that Native American statement, yes it is very sad and disgusting what we did to them. And I don't think any one American in his or her right mind is proud of what torture the Native Americans had to go through with getting booted out of their own land.
