If the government was really worried about solving the illegal immigration problem, they would have gone after the bosses that hire the illegals for this crap wages twenty years ago. If these owners had to follow the laws of the US regaurding employment, the problem wouldn't have gotten so big. It's not beneath Americans to work those jobs, it's the fact that the jobs are dangerous and illegal with no protection when someone gets hurt.
But, this is what we get for politicians. They are the most self-serving people around.

Illegal immigration is not a considerable problem in the United States. It's unfair, yes, but it's nothing close to being a problem.

Some of these comments seem to be really uninformed. I grew up in southeast Missouri/northeast Arkansas where farming is an integral component of the local economy. My family has ran a family owned farm operation for several decades. Those who say that American citizens are willing to work these jobs are not familiar with my area, and possibly other areas as well. When an American applies for a job in the farming industry, they often make demands. They want to operate the machinery but not do the manual labor, such as pitching watermelons, chopping cotton, etc. The only people who are willing to do this work are the local Hispanic population. And the comments about employers' illegal hiring processes being the root of the problem is not fair. Someone has to do the work and if no one but illegal immigrants are willing, then what other choice do they have? Additionally, their safety is no more of an issue than that of the other farmhands. When they're injured, they're taken to the local ED where the farm owner typically pays all expenses. Statements founded upon uneducated opinions are often more destructive than outright lies.

Someone is actually giving a response to this issue by giving an insight look from a personal point of view at how immigrants are willing to take any job regardless of the pay or the risks, and your response is...

It is when you know the real facts. The people he is speaking of are professional people. They operate machinery, they don't work in fields. I know first hand the problem this causes here where I live. There are many people I know that need jobs, and would be willing to pick blue berries, strawberries, corn...the list goes on. Why can't they? The jobs are taken by the mexicans you people are so fond of. Like swarms of locust they come in and take the jobs. Leaving little or none for those who LIVE in this country who have every RIGHT to be employed. They need money to clothe, feed and house their families. And they can't because of the millions of illegals that flood this place by the day. They get FREE health care. They get FOOD STAMPS and all the benifits that working men and women can't afford.

How do they get free health care? To get health care and assistance through food stamps you need to have social security, which illegal immigrants don't even have for the main reason that they are ILLEGAL.
They could perhaps provide a fake ID, for which I agree they should be prosecuted and deported.

I'm not taking sides on this issue, as I believe both sides are wrong. As I mentioned before I don't agree with deporting each and every one of the 11 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. today, and I also don't agree with allowing residence to all of them.

Personally I think that illegals who expect to become legal residents need:

- To pass an English aptitude test
- To have no criminal background (leave alone being an illegal immigrant)
- To have proof or how long they've been living in the U.S. (Purchase receipts and all that stuff).
- and letters of recommendation from American citizens.

It might take a while to make all of this work, but I think it would be worth it for those who deserve it.
