Yes you see this would be about the 13th box set. So there have been box sets just not clear as to what they initially promised 15 years ago. At that time I assumed something like the "Led Zeppelin" four c.d. box set from 1990 that collects most of their songs from their original studio l.p.s. Some sort of four c.d. set like that. I am glad at this point that that hasn't been done though maybe in the future at some point. The reasoning behind hesitating on releasing certain things is because they don't want to flood the market, they want the original l.p.s to sell as well as possible before putting other versions or just more stuff out. It has to be strategic amongst what they have released AND to watch other artists and learn from their success and mistakes. It's all good.
Let's see these are the Queen box sets released so far...
1. "The Complete Works"
2. "Magic Years" VHS video box set set
3. "Greatest Hits I & II" Limited Edition box set in green box
4. "Greatest Hits I & II" Limited Edtion box set in black box
5. "The Queen Collection" Limited Edition box set of "Classic Queen", "Greatest Hits", and "Queen Talks" + "Thank God It's Christmas" track.
6. "Box Of Flix"
7. "Box Of Trix" Limited Edition fan club only release.
8. some box set of a single from "Made In Heaven".
9. that huge box set of all Queen c.d.s in a frame thing
10. the limited edition singles collection on c.d. from the late 1980's
11. the first limited edition collection of remasters from Japan
12. the second limited edition collection of remasters from Japan
13. "The Crown Jewels"
...and of course there is "The Freddie Mercury Solo Collection".
And frankly all of this could be boxes of turds but with this many releases even though many were limited editions make Queen stand out far and above most any other groups out there. Hardly anyone else could have done all of this...and I am thankful for each and everyone of them...

Now that I've had time to think, why don't we wait for an official tracklisting before we make our minds up? This new set could surprise us, you know.
I don't think I have all single edits which will be on this box. For me it's very simple : if the CDs are copy protected, I am not buying them - if they are decent audio CDs with no copy protection I will buy them.

In fairness, YV and Dan, apparently Thomas' posts were okay and lacking in venom, while mine was provocative and 'over the top.' I humbly apologize ;D
To be fair, I don't think anybody's got the right to complain, unless QP force you to buy their shitty releases. If you don't like Greatest Hits (e.g. me) or hate absurd releases like Rare Live (e.g. me) you can simply not buy them.
I think some people on here are overreacting, and frankly theres a lot of dummy spitting going on.
QP have released some shit over the years, no doubt, but perhaps not as much as some might argue.
The likes of GH3 can be seen as trying to introduce new fans to Queen, in the hope that they might explore further, or at least gauge the market for the potential of new releases - the 90's werent exactly the best period for rock music.
Stone Cold Classics on the other hand is totally pointless, given the availability of the GH's, and is indeed a milking situation.
This new box set - where does it fall?
Well - there will be tracks on there which are no longer available, and that itself means that professional quality versions of these are worth having to some people, like myself. Although I do object to buying tracks I already have again, even if theyre singles edits, there are countless bands who have done this sort of thing, because it sells - there is a market for it.
That market probably isnt most hardcore fans, but lets be honest, you dont have to buy it, and what people are annoyed really has nothing to do with this product or its quality - its because what we would all like is "THE box sets", with all the rare stuff we dream of.
So really - this new product is worthwhile, even to some serious Queen fans, who would like stuff like B-sides all in one place, rather than having to search round the net for versions which are poorer quality, or lifted from Vinyl, complete with Crackles.
If you have to criticise, be sure its for what this is, not because of what it isnt.

If it would be complete - that's great, though I'd better buy GVH3. But something makes me think - it won't be complete and it won't have good package with detailed booklet.
I'm pretty sure that every forum on every web site ever created is set up to encourage discussion, therefore there will be disagreements, and complaints. This is our soapbox much like Brian has his. I like the rational disagreements on this board, and love learning new things. If I think that QP makes horrible choices, it doesn't change or affect my life, but I'm entitled to voice my displeasure, and not buy their product. If others love their choices, they're entitled to voice their happiness and buy their product. No one is right or wrong most times, it's just our point of view, and most of the time it's Stepfords who get pissed when people disagree with the Queen spin on things.

I am considering getting this to improve my vinyl versions. It is not horribly exciting, but it beats Queen+PR live (DVD & CD), Stone Cold Classics, or the aNatO rerelease (DVD & DVD-A)
Just thought you might all like to know that there's no use getting excited about seeing this boxset this Christmas.
As I understand it, the release date had already been put back to spring 2007, although it's now recently been shelved for a lot longer, and most likely won't even be out in 2007.
