Evolution AND the Bible

the year is 1 AD, Jesus has been born and the old testament is over. fast forward several years. Jesus tells the people of the world that the old testament is wrong. and just like that 1000s of years of history is gone. forward still 100s of years, to the time of Charles Darwin, he tells the world about evolution, and is hated by the catholic church. why is he hated? the catholics still belive in the old testament which says that god created the humans.so, in short, Evolution is no real theat to religion.

Darwin is only hated by fundamentalist extremist christians.

I for once went to a Catholic school and I was taught Darwin's theory of evolution.

As Do did i and currently still do and i too was taught Darwins theory in Bio class...


But to attempt to answer your question...

Evolution is seen as a threat because the Bible says that man was created in the image and likeness of God...
And if we came from "apes" as Darwins Theory suggests, it therefore makes humans look inferior. What i mean is then that in some way we were made "simpler" and therefore putting God down in some way as if God was an 'ape' who evolved... therefore not the all "supreme being" that God is supposed to be...

Don't believing in evolution is the same as don't believing in gravity. It's been widely approved as fact.


And why can't evolution and religion go togher. Maybe a god made that whole evolution. People shouldn't take the Old Testament so seriously. It's book compiled with stories which were spread mouth-to-mouth for over 5000 years. Ofcourse lot of stories in it have a truth somewhere deep within. But all have logical explainations (like floods and eruptions) but that was more than 2000 years ago, hardly any knowledge, hardly any technology.

I'm sure in 3000 years people will raise eyebrows at some of the things we think at this moment.

Exactly. Things that may have been concidered miracles in those days, might easily be explained today with science.

Yes, it is to me to, and Im counting on it to be true but its nobody else's business

On the other hand, some people (like myself) class faith and religion as two different things. Does anyone else feel this way?

Totally, faith and religion are different to me, I have a strong faith in God and his teachings, but Im not religious

Same here...I mean I try and follow some things, but I don't consider myself religeous...more spiritual.
