Do you even know what people are complaining about? It has absolutely nothing to do with the archives.

Oh I know perfectly well what people are complaining about. It's about the singles, isn't it?
[QUOTENAME]Sir Nathan wrote: [/QUOTENAME]I think we all need to calm down a little here, friends.
First off, let's take a look at Mr. Brooks' profession. He is THE Queen Archivist and by that I mean the only one there is. Let's consider how much material Queen will have in their archives. They made fifteen studio albums from 1973-1995, with lots of unused tracks, demos and outtakes for each.
Then we come to the live recordings. Didn't someone say that Brian May once stated that all concerts from 1976 (?) onwards were recorded? That makes for an awful lot of live recordings, all of which are probably in the archives.
Now we get back to Mr. Brooks. I'm no expert on archivism (perhaps you can help me Mr. Brooks) but it sounds like he is in charge of these. Imagine how much he has to sort through just to get them in some kind of order. It would be wrong for us to expect him to know everything about every last song in there.
However, there isn't really much excuse for the name-calling and insulting that's being passed back and forth through this thread. And I will admit I'm wondering when the next release will be.
I'm not trying to take sides, I'm just trying to see where everyone is coming from.
I don't think most of the slag is about what is released and what is not.
It is merely about communication. And to be honest... purely based on seeing mr Brooks' rant inhere a couple of years back, reading his Q&A's on QOL and hearing his presentations at the conventions every year, I'm sorry to say, I also have the impression that he is not the most aimable man in Queenland...

I'm sorry. I was focusing on the part of his rant where he discusses the singles. But as I have said before, there was no need for that sort of language. If the situation is going to get resolved, a peaceful solution will need to be found.

Yes, so where does the whole archiving thing come in to play? As far as I know, the vaults have been archived, and Queen Productions are waiting to release the best of the best when the time is right.
This is about the flow of information and about Greg's manner of communication - as jeroen just said above me. So what if he has a tough job? Most of us do. If he's working "14 hours a day" on these singles box sets, then certainly some of that 14 hours consists of researching? What does a 14 hour day consist of, Greg? What exactly do you do that constricts your ability to research and contact official publications / magazines about what you need to know?
As for a peaceful solution, that was in Greg's hands. If he had to say anything at all, he could have come in here and logically explained himself. However, he did what he does best and came roaring in like a hurricane with the childish namecalling and absurdities. He had the power to diffuse the situation with a rational, calm explanation, and he didn't. So if you're going to spread your pacificism, spread it his way, because he needs it the most.

You should be ashamed of yourself...I detest you.
There are too many people in the world like you... who detest others - people they have never met in their life, but whom will form an opinion of DETESTING THEM based on nothing very much. That's an awful burden to bare.
I don't detest you Poppy. I have never met you. I do not detest anyone. That is an incredibly unhealthy way to conduct your life. You are not a very nice person, are you Poppy. Have a think about why you hate so easily. And try to be more tolerant.
Shame on you!

I just thought I would point out that POPPY didn't say she detested you. It was radio_what's_new. She merely pointed out that 'radio' missed a few of the insults you were throwing out on here.

Exactly what I was about to point out, Well said.

I pointed that out last page! ;)
But come on, Erin. That would require comprehension skills and a basic ability to process information. I mean, do you really expect a man who spends 14 hours a day on the singles box set to read and comprehend things that us "plebs" write? Who has the time for that! We're only helping pay his salary!
I wonder if Mark Lewisohn (Beatles archivist) ever talked this way to the legions of Beatles fans...

Calm down? That's a disappointment! I was just about to propose we all chip in to hire a hitman!
Anybody got a Sicilian cousin(no ethnic disrespect intended)?
I know a guy who knows a guy. $50, no mess, everything in its right place. You want I should talk to him?

Well, the vault-issue that bothers a lot of people, is probably that they are worried about it being meistered properly.
For instance: a lot of collectors that spent years of their lives analysing Queen's concerts through the years, have pointed out some errors in Greg's book. But instead of correcting them, they are still in tact in the new issue.
To a lot of people the big problem is 'I know more then the official archivist WITH ACCESS TO THE VAULTS does, WITHOUT having access to the vaults!'
Idea is that Greg spends a lot of time in researching stuff that a lot of fans already know. (Some believe this is the main reason that we are missing out on the release of the REALY interesting material). Now, if he had been a bit nicer to people and cooperated a bit more, together they might have come to something higher. But the situation now is, that a lot of serious people that realy know AND OWN a lot of Queen-realted material keep quiet. They think twice about walking up to Greg to share their knowledge and their rare recordings...

$50? Sjeesh, life sure is cheap these days!
Let's split the cost, and I'll throw in a copy of "Queen Live" for good measure.

Okay, Mr Brooks, I have one question for you too: when you for the last time have seen John (you named Brian, Roger, Jim as your bosses) and how's he doing?
John's in the vault with the rest of the stuff that is...

Property of Queen Productions.

Greg,
To get back to what I feel is the most important point, why ARE you wasting 14 hours a day on a singles compilation NONE OF US ARE GOING TO BUY.
We HAVE the albums.
We HAVE the singles.
We HAVE the bootlegs.
We DON'T HAVE a Queen boxset of unreleased tunes and demos.
Hmmm...perhaps there's a sales opportunity there!
