I thought maybe Katie Melua as well. It reminds me very much of someone whom I can't place and it's driving me mad trying to remember who.

Yes I'm also sure its NOT Katie Melua. I've listened a lot to Katie and I'm sure I would have recognized her voice.
It sounds to me a bit like an older recording, but how come if its a 70's song that the lyrics are so perfectly fitting?

it is no way katie melua. for god's sake whoever is singing it has an american accent. katie melua definately does not. wish i did know though. it's great.
