Where does Roger rank?

I've no idea where any drummer ranks, but i know who my favorites are :)

1: Roger taylor (Early Queen)
2: Nick Mason (Pink Floyd)
3: Eric Carr (KISS)
4: John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
5: Steven Adler (Guns n roses)
6: Harry James (Thunder)

Talking of KISS and peter criss, i don't think he was as good as his replacement eric carr. Theres a funny video on you tube of peter criss singing Beth out front during a KISS concert while totaly wasted, it's rather amusing

Oui, Neil Peart always does seem to be up in the top, as he is on my list. But... I'd say Roger's second only to Neil, for me anyways.

I agree with you. I still think you can notice rock drummers that are better than others, and make a list. But you are right in that the greatest drummers in the world are not likely the rock legends whos names we all know.

Drummer from white Lion is Greg d'Angelo - he's nothing outstanding, but does play some good stuff on the Mane Attraction album, and a good solo in their version of Radar Love.

I suppose technically you can ascertain the 'best' drummer, by measuring how many specific fills they can play, how fast they can play them etc..., but that'll never usually produce most of the drummers that people will rate of their favourites - these which usually relate to how that person's music has affected them through their life.

My personal faves are arrived at by how much I like their music, for their style of playing, what they do/don't play in a song, their technique and their influence (although I recognise that they are possibly not solely tecnhically as good as, say, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Eric Delaney, Dennis Chambers, Pat Torley etc..) - they are:

Roger Taylor (of course!) - Queen
Dave Grohl - Foo Fighters/Nirvana
Harry James - Thunder
Dan Pred (Dn Reed Network - check out their Live At last double CD!)
Matt Sorum - G n R / Velvet Rvolver
Liberty Devitto - Billy Joel

If you ask me next week, I'd probably come up with a completely different list!

Yeah, I first saw that a couple years ago. It's absolutely mindblowing that a kid could do that. But it's far, far over the heads of the majority of people here, and anywhere. The majority of drummers, including professionals, cannot begin to understand much of what this kid is doing. John Bonham, Charlie Watts, Keith Moon, Ian Paice, and Roger Taylor don't stand a chance against this kid. This forum is filled mostly with teenagers who haven't been exposed to any decent musicians outside of the mainstream, so there really isn't much point in going in that direction. But who knows, maybe this topic could be a start.
