Dude... I cannot believe I forgot to put him on my list. DUR!!! Not only is he on it but I put him behind Roger. Do you know why Roger is better? Because he's Roger. What I mean is that I am biased because he's Queen's drummer. He truly is amazing and can match anyone... except Peart. I'm not deaf, I know that guy is to drumming what Freddie is to singing, but I stick with Roger because of how perfectly his rhythms frame a song and especially because of how jawdropping his drum solos usually are, particularly during the recent tour. When I saw Queen live for the first time in my life with the Queen + Paul Rodgers tour, it was at the NEC arena in Birmingham, England. I went to the show ready for it all, but primarily ready to see Brian Rock. He was great, no doubt about it and so was Paul, but it was Roger who stole the show. Awesome vocals like I have never heard before, excellent showmanship, great drumming through the songs, but his solo that particular night is something I have never heard anything equal to in percussion, not even from Mr. Peart.
It's too bad for Neil Peart, and that awesome Rush guitarist that they are in a band that can create such great songs, but have it all ruined because of a voice that could drive me to suicide. It's amazing how that voice can screw up such a good thing. It's like going on a blind date. You see the girl and start from the bottom. Gorgeous legs, great tush, a stomach you could fry and egg on, exact replicas of Uma Thurman's breasts at age 19(guys see Dangerous Liasons and you will know what I am talking about), slender arms, an exquisite neck, long blonde hair, beautiful big green eyes.... but a giant, fully grown handle-bar moustache. That is Rush to me.

Good list. I didn't put Ringo because he was average really when the Beatles started. By Abbey Road, he was fantastic. Moon is awesome, but my Who knowledge is limited. I mean to say, I thought the boys hired him because he didn't make much of a fuss and was more fun than Pete Best who was/is actually the more sufficient drummer...
Anyhoo, as for Roger, he's OK. He's been described as a 'consumate rock drummer' I'm no expert on drummers but I can tell a good drummer from a crappy one and, contrary to what Brian says I don't believe being able to tune a snare makes or breaks a good drummer.
Roger is a great flashy rock drummer for a great flashy rock band. Someone like Charlie Watts, who just keeps the rythmn will no fills or fancy solos, would not fit in with Queen, Roger can pull off some solos (if it wasn't Roger then I wouldn't say that's a good thing but ah well, they asked for a 'Ginger Baker type'...) and as far as I can tell, Roger's never left the band wildly disorientated, for want of a better word. Technically I'm told he's not great but I think he's the first to admit that. So I don't think he belongs in the top 20 Greatest Drummers of All Time but he does what lot's of drummers don't: versatility. He is a great singer, he is a good all-round instrumentalist and a very good song-writer. It's all this, plus the drumming which makes him one of my favourite musicians of all time.

Hm...I love Roger a lot...he was especially amazing in his earlier days. But, as much as I hate to admit it, John Bonham is the best...my ranking...

He puts Roger at #55 on the rock list, and I completely agree, when you look at the 54 people above him, and the criteria for why they are above him. He doesn't come close to qualifying on the "most skilled drummers" page when you look at the 100 there. I haven't heard of a lot of them, but the ones I have heard of definitely destroy Roger Taylor in skill. Roger is a good drummer, but he is no technical master (not that he or anyone else is required to be!). He keeps a good beat, and his rolls are very clean, but he's not a very original drummer. He was just good for Queen, and that's what he'll be remembered as.

You're certainly not alone on that one. I love Rush, but Geddy's voice pre-1980 sometimes gets on my nerves, too. But he's been settled down for the last 25 years or so. Not many bands have sold 30 million albums without a top 10 hit. In fact, other than Rush, I can't name another one.
Nothing personal (so please don't take it that way!), but if you haven't heard anything better than Roger's Q+PR drum solo (bar Peart), then you really haven't heard a lot of good drummers. Check out these lists:

[/QUOTE] For once i'll agree with you. Roger is really nothing more than a very good drummer, but not nearly in the top ten or twenty. rush is a great band, but geddy is a pretty horrid singer pre 1980, I agree he has improved since. His vocals from 1980 till now is actually pretty good.
