'39...Best live or studio????

I ADORE THIS SONG.... IT'S SO FUCKING GREAT!

It's in my top ten all time favourite songs ever of Queen. But I would like to know what you people think of this song, is it sang better live or studio? I love both... but you know what really does it for me? LIVE...you feel the power and the crowd going fucking mental... I remember singing to it at Hyde Park 2005 concert, WOW... very mindblowing that was.

for me its studio...i dunno why...but you are right, when Brian sang it at my concert, it was mind-blowing, i loved it. I love both very much. But if i had to ...i would pick studio

Brian always chooses the right songs to compose and sing for himself...like for instance my favorite of his is Sail Away sweet sister and some day one day...but he never sang them in concert...*sigh*

I went to Q+PR U.S tour, 3 times, in Miami, Georgia, and Jacksonville

both.

Freddie suited the live version - whereas Brian suited the country-esque studio version.

Funny, I was thinking just a few hours ago that Sail away sweet sister is such a pretty song and Brian almost ruins it with his voice :(

That's really a song I'd LOVE to hear with Freddie vocals.

I agree.

I find when Brian sings, I have to strain to hear him and then... I wish I hadn't. People mention how they appreciate the emotion he puts into his singing (namely in Too Much Love Will Kill You). When I listen to him, I don't hear emotion, I hear pain. He makes singing seem so difficult while Freddie just pours it out. Don't get me wrong, I love Brian's songwriting, playing and backing vocals. I just don't appreciate his voice when he's singing lead. :-/

As to the topic, though - I prefer the studio version.

I have heard this song played live on several bootlegs including, I think, Seattle and Earls Court, and the harmonizing in the middle is awful and embarrassingly bad. Glad they dropped this. I thought Brian did a nice job on the recent tour though.

Studio. The live version is a bit too jolly for my taste.

Exactly! Nice that someone "sees" the same things that I see :) Also he singing sounds like he has his mouh full of food or something (not sure if the comparison fits perfectly).

The beginning of WWTLF is a great example of how poor Brian's voice is and how great Freddie's was.
