To a certain extent, yes, his father is responsible for MJ's issues, but MJ needs to figure out that he's never going to get the affection or apology he wants from his father. His father doesn't give a crap about him. The sooner he realizes that, the sooner he can move on with his life and try to heal the best that he can. He'll be waiting for the rest of his life for a apology that will never come if he doesn't move on.
