Who wrote Crazy little thing called love? Freddie or Elvis?

Freddie wrote it as a tribute to Elvis, in a bathtub as pointed out already. Isn't it weird some people are trying to say Elvis wrote it, It'd be like saying J.R.R Tolkien wrote Harry Potter or something.

Hello I don't know a lot about musical history myself but understand these arguments come up a lot of the time. I've always know Crazy little thing called love to be a old song and never even realized Queen sang it. So when someone asked me who's song it was we ended up in a argument about its origins. I did a google search and found a YouTube video of Elvis Presley singing it but some people are arguing that it is a digitally created version of the song and that Elvis never sung it. Well I was born in 1985 so it came out before I was born but my father listened to all them bands so I grew up with that era of music. I am not sure but we used to have heaps of old vinyl Records so I'm going to look through those for a Elvis one and if its on any of them then that should settle the argument. Since they are no longer produced anywhere anymore as far as I know. So I'll let you all know how it turns out. If it's on a vinyl then Elvis sang it first but if its not that doesn't mean Freddy wrote it either as sometimes artist release song of other artist which were never released. I also have a lot of cassettes I can check through to. Ultimately if its on any of the Elvis ones then its a Elvis song if its not then further researching will still be required before I'll confidently say its a Freddy song. I'm backing it to of been a Elvis song though.

If it would be anywhere it would be on 8 track cartridges. Dig them out. Good luck.

I can actually solve this as i have just watched a very interesting documentary.

After Elvis died a guy named Jimmy Ellis was touted by his record company to be "Elvis in disguise" under the stage name of Orion. Each album Actually had a story on the back about Orion being a "megastar" who faked his death but goes on performing in disguise... And a book was written...
he had albums called "He might be Elvis", and his songs being "Lost Elvis recordings"
He would perform in a mask and had a very very similar voice.

One of the things he recorded was a cover of Queen's Crazy Little Thing Called Love" not long after Queen in 1980.

Well if you check Wikipedia about the song you will notice that it says originally sung by Elvis Presley. Wikipedia is 95% correct normally, plus if its been edited it normally says it at the top of the page until the edited facts are verified. It doesn't state that Elvis wrote it but says he originally sung it. Music history is full of lies and stealing of songs cover ups of misbehaviors and other shocking things. I wouldn't be surprised to find out with a little bit of digging that it was probably produced for the first time by a much older band like the Beatles or someone else lol.

This is a great encapsulation of just how fucked up the planet is.

If a fair percentage of the general pop. believes the world is flat, Australia is a hologram, and the stars are a projection from Earth, then believing Elvis originally sang CLTCL isn't that surprising. Depressing yes, surprising no. Humans are slightly evolved animals.

Well it says Elvis on Wikipedia sung it first but again it don't say he wrote it, and I think that is what the argument was originally about wasn't it

I also noticed on the Wikipedia Elvis Presley song list page a song called "" A thing called love "" but it's a totally different song and if you ask me it don't even sound like Elvis singing it.
