Grunge....dirty hair, depression, and flannel.
Grunge=100% Nirvana!!!!! :DD
grunge... i think of nirvana or pearl jam whe i hear that word...
in short, grunge is... raw, grotesque, emotional in a good way, abstract, and if i were to paint something... it would end up looking like a picasso piece. :)

Hey, you guys! Besides Nirvana being a grunge band, what about Hole, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam (although someone mentioned it once), Mudhoney, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Screaming Trees, Temple Of The Dog, Mother Love Bone, and Black Lab?

Nice thread... Lots of open minded folk in here!
Now don't get me wrong, if I see a CD labelled Nirvana I'm not the first one to grab it and put it on, but really.. you could do worse. Jay-Z, for example, the man with less rhythm than Average Homeboy.

Exactly... But even myself I don't go criticising Hip Hop music. I don't like the music but I don't go headbashing it. I respect others tastes.

Rock is rock.
Dan Corson, I think that may be the most sane post here yet... And whoever said that grunge was like a picasso painting, that is a great comparison. I like grunge, but I don't have alot of time for anything outside of Queen. Actually, I choose not to, but I am obviously obsessed with Queen, so why not listen to them alot? When I am not listening to Queen, I can be found with The Clash, Nick Drake or Nirvana. There is tons of other stuff I'd love to listen to, which is why I buy CDs. I occasionally listen to Pearl Jam, Hole (only like once in my life, none of the local radio stations play it), Alice in Chains, etc. Sorry for the super long post!

And I thought I had become narrow-minded about music...
Is Nirvana "Classic Rock" ? Some people say so, but the local "Classic Rock" radio station never plays them.
Maybe it's different where you guys are, but here "Classic Rock" is pretty much a term used to market to the people who are "Yeah ! AC/DC ROCKS ! They're geniuses and wrote some of the most awesome and complex music EVER !"
