My house will not be infested. This is why I do a little research on things I don't have a knowledge base on before I make unreasonable assumptions. This spider would much rather be outside than inside my house. She knows that her food source is outside. Most of the spiderlings that will come out of the egg sac in the Spring will not survive due to natural predators or just nature itself. Hardly enough to call an infestation at the least anyway.
I also know from doing a little research that this spider is harmless to humans. If I see that some of the spiderlings gets in my house I will make sure it finds its way back out. Also, this spider will nine times out of ten attach its egg sac to a hard, permanent surface like a house, patio support, tree, large shrub, etc. so it is in a very natural place and that is where it will stay. This spider has literally saved my whole backyard. I was infested with grasshoppers until she came along. My grass was chewed to bits.[/QUOTE]

You know what's interesting is we (the whole family) watched her spin this web. She was all about detail, but fast! She left a hole in the center and when the web was complete, she popped over to the other side (which is how I got the picture of her belly), closed up the hole and just sat there, waiting.
The article you found describes her web as about 3 feet wide and 3 feet high. That's exactly right. We were shocked by the size and thickness of it.

Tee hee! My spider is common too. Very common indeed. Aren't their webs amazing? The spider you've got there is the one that likes to spin webs that people often walk through while the spider in my yard tends to stay away from people.
I'm sure she probably had BBQ gnats, filet of fly, and sauted gnats for dinner. ;)

I slowly open the pages because I'm afraid to flip and come across a full picture of a tarantula. Once I remember flipping pages on this book to find a picture of some weird looking picture of a hairy creature with 6 eyes and fangs. Imagine myself screaming to find out it was a spider.
