Have you ever been made fun of for being a Queen fan

Hell people bully me for liking Queen, even my best friends. They seem to hate it, and some people are made fun of because of it. To be honest, they seem to be anoyed by the fact that Queen are so good, because their arguments aren't supported. Most people in this desert corner of the world tell me that 'their alright', with a really patronising tone. Every chance people get they teases me for liking Queen. I recently got connected to broadband and saw the Live Aid performance on google. My mates saw it and couldn't believe how good it was, and yet they still teased me for it later! And, the other day, I went to buy a Queen DVD from a major retailer, and they told me they were sold out, in Western Australia, where everybody follows the worst named bands, they were SOLD OUT of Queen DVD's! I felt like telling the bastards at my Senior School that, if only I could text. Oh well, they wouldn't believe me anyway. But, for all their teasing and reasoning with me to like different bands, tis useless. Because every time I come home after a long day of defending my heroes, I listen to a Queen albulm and know that they are, and always will be the best.

I was a laughing-stock at school in the 70s for liking Queen and not being a sheep and getting into punk rock, and liking a band whose lead singer was voted "Pratt of the year" by NME readers for 2 consecutive years in 76 and 77. People with no love or loyalty hate to see it in others, and liking a band purely because it is trendy to do so shows a complete lack of self-esteem!! So there.

uhm... if your friends call you gay cause you liked a band called queen, is that counted as mockery from outside sources?

I got the piss taken out of me at school loads. Left a year ago, second year of collge now! thank god!
People are a lot more understanding at college, but Im on a music course so some of them know what music is now!!
We get some stick for our band being influenced by Queen instead of The clash!!

I was made fun of pretty bad in middle school. They usually said something along the lines of "Oh yeah...Queen, weren't they all gay?" I responded, "no you dumb fuck! Freddie was the "queen" of Queen." And then they said "Queen sucks." My response was, "You're just saying that out of ignorance...go ahead and say what you want about Freddie, I really don't care...but tell me then out of all the rock frontmen, tell me who could've had a better voice, stage presence, or was even a better songwriter..." And that shut them up.

my friends take the mickey out of me but they dont bully me or anything, my whole class knows that i love Queen and they dont seem to care. And even if people do bully u they're the ones that go around singing We Are The Champions whenever they win anything!!! People who bully or tease about Queen just dont have any real taste in the music, they dont understand what it means for a song to be 'heartfelt' and 'meaningful'...

Just get a giant prawn costume and pounce about everywhere, striking Freddie poses. That way, people will respect your all-out devotion to Queen and realize that offering opinions contrary to your beliefs will be useless. Works for me - ha, get it? "Works" - giant prawn tie-in, yay!

why do you think that this topic comes up?

for one thing; queen is not a very "cool" name for a rock band and second, their lead singer was bi-sexual. which really means he was addicted to sex.
led zeppelin sounds cool, black sabbath sounds cool, deep purple sounds cool. not queen.
that's two reasons why people make fun of queen.

im from portland oregon and i get made fun of all the time. instead of telling people my favourite band is queen, I say nirvana, or smashing pumpkins, or led zeppelin.

i'm not ashamed of queen; it's just that i don't want to get in an argurment over music. everyone has their own preference for music, so let it be. you can never win an argument over who is the best band.

if i was you, tell people that queen sucks and keep it to yourself.

What's important is how you handle the situation.

I've never been "made fun of" for liking Queen specifically, but I did have to answer some very annoying "Aren't they dead, and gay ?" questions during the questions and answers section of my Senior Thesis (I used a song clip, along with a Beatles one, as an example of English language differences). But I didn't get mad. I just answered the questions, which involved making some people look very foolish.

I think having a good attitude is important. I would never get deeply upset because someone said "Queen are gay". I mean, really, who cares ? It's just other people saying something.

Now, if someone punches you or something - just because you like Queen, that's another issue.

Not made fun of... But I have gotten that Freddie was ugly, Freddie was scary, and Freddie was actually a girl.
Oh, and yesterday, a girl asked who the guys on my binder were, and when I answered Queen, a boy chimed in and said, "They suck at music!"
I just said, "No they don't.."
"The do! I bought their CD, and it sucked!"

when i read all these storys from the others i've never assumed that there are so many ignorant people who declarated us as gay-glorifying freaks.
actually there are no guys in my direct circle of friends who have ever told stupid things about me and my fanatic love to freddie and queen. exactly the opposite; most of them respect and support my fanaticism;) i even brought up my best friend to be a big queen-fan; took him to tribute concerts and anything like that...
but i can imagine how people, who were annoyed with that shit, think about, cos i sometimes experienced it too.
like that: someday when i came to work, wearing a queen shirt (the classic crest), a younger colleague asked me, totally wondered (!), if it is a specific music style >> confused and speechless i left him alone...
or in the time i went to school an ex-classmate came totally excited to me and told me queen have released a new album. she meant the queen dance traxx album!!! what can you say to that yet...??? i really hate those people who think they have any idea about queen; but mostly they don't know the first thing about it.
all i can say is: "If you have no idea, simply shut up"
ignore those individuals, live your life, praise freddie/queen (in your way and how do you like) and all will be fine!!
