Funny how everyone is making comparisons between todays bands and those of the old times.
What I found dissapointing is that the Knights of Cydonia, while being released as a single, has hardly been a success. I guess the time of bombastic rock opera is now really over. A pity imho. I always have lived with the thought that many many people would still recognize good music. Unfortunately they don't.. :(

Thanks to MTV and the media as a whole. The public's appreciation for quality music slowly diminished, while the focus on the image slowly grew. We know things are bad when Nickelback and Evanescence are amongst the most successful of today's rock bands. Great band, talented, original. I can see where the comparison with Queen comes from, but I also do think Muse is very different in many ways.

Being in the states I havn't heard much of muse, so Is this band worth checking out?...The last time I listened to music fans from england I was led to believe robbie williams was better than Queen and elvis combined, so obviously I couldn't wait to hear this great vocalist. I put it in my CD player and after the first song I realized I just wasted 18 dollars on a load of crap.

Honestly, give Muse a try. Buy "Absolution" first. Give it a couple listens. If you like it, then go for their newest one, "Black Holes And Revelations". They have a very British sound for sure. They are incredibly intelligent musicians, and it clearly shows. Their chord progressions, melodies, phrasing, lyrics, and songwriting as a whole is pretty much unrivaled in today's mainstream. I would love to find more bands of this pristine quality.
But it's worth pointing out the difference in the quality of the North American the European mainstreams. Here, Muse plays venues that hold one or two thousand people. They could never sell out arenas here, because most people here are fully immersed in bubble-gum pop, 4-chord rock bands, and rap. In Europe, however, they're playing some of the places that Queen played in their heyday (Vienna Stadhalle, Dusseldorf Philipshalle, Birmingham NEC, etc.). There have always been cultural differences in musical tastes, but it speaks wonders when at the moment, Billy Talent, Evanescence, Nickelback, and Default are the most successful rock bands in North America. Dream Theater and Muse are among the bands conquering Europe these days, and Nickelback gets booed off the stage (did you hear about that show in Portugal a couple years ago?). I digress.
In the UK, Muse are on their way to being one of the most successful bands in the last couple decades. They're going to play two nights at the new Wembley, for crying out loud. Not many bands could sell out one night at Wembley, never mind two! The second night hasn't sold out yet, but surely it will. What other band that we all know and love played two nights at Wembley at the peak of their success? Hmmmmmmm...? :)

Haha, now you're scaring me. But you're right. The British Invasion ended long ago and it was thought for a long time that a British band wouldn't be able to top the US charts in this day and age. But fucking hell, this was proved to be wrong later...but why the fuck did it have to be Coldplay? And this is not only for the US, they also topped the UK charts too and I think they're already outselling Oasis(a good band) in terms of total albums. Talk about OVERRATED. They're a 4-chord rock band too. As I said before, CHRIS MARTIN CAN'T SING FOR SHIT. Their lyrics are LAME, they depress me. 99% of their music is plagiarized from some other source. Fucking hell, I'm really happy that artistic bands like Radiohead, Muse, etc. have found success in South America and the rest of Europe. Coldplay is probably the gayest band I've ever heard and I DEEPLY regret listening to them due to my idiotic friend(who I completely hate now). Robbie Williams is gay too. I'm always up for new music, so I'll give in and check them out. I listened to a few samples and they sound pretty good.
