THE REST OF THE ALBUM ROCKS.

I disagree....I personally think that More Of That Jazz and Fun It are at Roger's best. :D

But...my favorites are Jealousy and Dead On Time. ;D

Very good for a rock album, pretty good for a Queen album. In the pantheon of Queen album rankings....
it's just under SHA and just over The Game.

I love it. The first and last song aren't ones i would listen to regularly however.

I've always had a soft spot for Jazz. Highlights for me are Dead on Time, Dreamer's Ball and the never mentioned, but sublime, In Only Seven Days. I recently read somewhere that Jazz was Queen's version of the White Album. A valid point, in that they threw in basically everything but the kitchen sink. Leaving Home Ain't Easy has really grown on me over the years. A very laid-back, relaxing track. I would have flip-flopped LMEY and Mustapha in the tracklisting.

I think its a mad ass album. Its very out there and i think all the tunes rock. Ok, dead on time is a bit.. well the end gets better when they rock on... but is there last album before they got in to synths, so... but fat bottom girls.

for me, jazz is one of their so-so albums, or if not, their only so-so album. it's not that bad, but it's not that good either. it's still more on the good side though. bicycle race, fat bottomed girls, and don't stop me now are their best ones in this album, but they didn't reach that high in the charts. but IMO, despite the chart position, i love these songs and of course the album. the older, more operatic songs are more of my type though.

I think the best songs on Jazz are:

-In only seven days
-Don't stop me now
-Jealousy
-Let me entertain you
-Fun it


I really don't think Roger had his best time writing songs in 1978. My personal favourite Taylor-song is "Drowse" from A Day at the Races.

Jazz was my favourite Queen-album 6 years ago. Now today it's Queen II and A Day at the Races.
Queen(1) comes in 3rd position.

I think Jazz is a really unserious Queen-album, and I don't like that anymore. I think the real serious songs are the best, like "White Queen", "The March of the Black Queen", "My Fairy King", "Great King Rat", You take my breath away", "The Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke", "The Night Comes Down", "Doing All Right", "Ogre Battle" etc...


...But all in all, I think Jazz is 6/10, and that's pretty good on a Queen-scale!

I agree with others that you sorta had to be there. Jazz, along with Live Killers, The Game, Flash, and Hot Space all have special places in my heart because it was the age where I could buy these albums when they came out. I was too young to buy the early albums when they came out.

My favorite song from Jazz is Jealousy.

Jazz, don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful album. It's Queen's attempt at the White Album, in my opinion, along with NOTW. In fact, it could have been a double album had they used the same instruments and kept Mike Stone as their sound engineer and co-producer. Both albums were basically a bunch of songs that didn't really fit, but somehow they blend together quite nicely. What I mean is... II was dark and over the top, SHA was a carnival of sorts and very edgy, ANATO and ADATR were quite operetic and grandiose - a wide spectrum of vocal arrangements, but Jazz as well as NOTW were very messy.

But, I find Jazz to be the weaker of the two. And I think the reason for this is the running order of the songs. It just seems side 2 was included for the sole purpose of Don't Stop Me Now. I'm not saying the songs were shit... In fact, I belive them to be all strong compositions, save the dreadful More of that Jazz... I think it brings down Fun It, which is not an entirely bad song, just slightly weaker than the rest.

So, the running order... Side 2 starts of with a bang when Dead on Time rips through the speakers...and then In Only Seven Days brings you back down... but then there's Dreamers Ball, which is fun but you stop paying attention, and then lose it to Fun It and Leaving Home. You wake up to Don't Stop and finally end it on that stupid pastiche in More of that Jazz which just gives the album a bad name.

I disagree that you had to be there to like jazz. It's a pretty solid album, lots of fun. I agree with jimmy deans track listing for the most part, but "fun it" has to go in the trash bin, and end the album on a high note with don't stop me now.
