Steve Mcqueen was very cool. The motorbike chase from The Great Escape in which he is pursued by German soldiers is a thrill.
How can you people say The Matrix Reloaded car chase scene was good? 90% of it was not even real!!! So if that counts, whenever I play Grand Theft Auto is the best car chase scene ever.

Seriously, though, how about To Live And Die In L.A.? William Petersen in South Central.
The chase in The Matrix is still a car chase scene.

If you put the scene from French Connection and this Matrix of yours in the same league, then I think you're missing the point.

Then the podracing scene was twice as long as The Matrix. Episode I wins.

How about the lightcycles on Tron?

What about the new cartoon movie Cars?

Speed Racer blows 'em all away. Go Speed Racer, go!
What does the length of the chase have to do with anything?

I think the fact that they're not REAL CARS superscedes anything!!

Just an opinion of mine, that's all.

And Length? If it's long, it's gotta be good (French Connection). Not artificial. After about 5 minutes of that Matrix scene, it felt like a video game. I've never gone back and watched it a 2nd time.

I've probably watched FC's at least twenty to thirty times in my life.

300 GM Vehicles were used during the shooting of the car chase in the Matrix Reloaded, and most of them ended up wrecked. The scene was shot on a decommissioned highway owned by the U.S. Navy. So it was more real than you claim.

Digital effects were obviously necessary, but it's still a car chase anyways.

Now, if we're speaking of 100% free from digital effect car chases, I'd have to say Terminator 2 has the best ones.
How often do we see a helicopter chasing a truck?

I think the best is Bullitt, but one of my favorites has to be from the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds. The car chase at the end when he steals "Eleanor" is classic.
Iam surprised someone has not mentioned this one already. The sequence from Raiders Of The Lost Ark, which begins with Harrison Ford on horseback as he pursues a truck which he leaps onto. it is fantastic.
I quite like the Mini vs The Police in Goodbye Pork Pie

How about need for speed? Its not exactly chases but it's close enough to it because they do ram each other and act as if it is a chase.
no it isn't
