There are gay people everywhere - even in the KKK and American Republican Party.
In my opinion, it's a rude thing to waltz in and ask people. Especially the "actually" is a poor word choice.
Freddie had more going for him than just being gay. So does anyone else who happens to prefer having sexual relationships with people of their own gender.
Now, it's not just because this is about sexuality, this is just because that's all you want to know. I could understand if you were asking when people first realised they were gay, if you wanted to have a debate on why people are gay, or if you had some other possibly intelligent thing to say or wish to discuss.
Being gay just really isn't that special.
