Actually it was COLUMBIA who ruined Journey, not Cain or Perry. Let's face it, prior to Perry, they still had that "Santana" sound going minus the percussion. Perry gave them identity. And we may hate Open Arms because of hearing it sooooo much, but it still is a classic song that every Rock ballad since has tried to copy. Don't blame Perry & Cain. CBS wanted them to become a rock ballad machine.
By the way, Rock guitarists are not the only guitarists.
