I have to write an essay on a significant event. I of course decided to do it on Queen so I need your guys' help. I have a few reasons in my head of why they were significant, but could you please make a list of other reaasons. Thanks Queenies!

Two obvious ones would be the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' video, and Freddie's death. Not only were they important for the band, also the music world in general.

Queen is significant in that they gave the music world some of the most well-known and best loved tunes of all time, such as We Will Rock You, Another One Bites The Dust, We Are The Champions and It's A Kind of Magic.

While I agree with your statement, it's hardly something that seperates Queen from all of their contemperaries (every major artist has their hits). Look at it this way, for such an assignment I would look for something unique, something that stands out. The idea of "Bohemian Rhapsody" being a significant part of their history is correct. However, that is only in the entertainment arena.
What you're looking for is something relevant not only to the music world, but the world in general. Mentioned above the page by (an idea shared) two queenzoners was the influential impact that was given off due to Freddie Mercury's death.
Within the rock world Freddie's death was a realization that AIDS was not only a threat to the people of Africa but to everybody. With this people of all ages took (let's hope so) better care of themselves...thus turning Freddie's death into something of a miracle. That's just one way to look at it. You can go off into so many different directions with the topic of Freddie Mercury's death.

you've also got to talk about their BRILLIANT live shows, as well as how great a performer they all were/are (i dont think that made too much sense, but you know what I mean) and you've got to mention how GOD DAMN SEXY ROGER IS (and the Wild Raccoons)
Well I think you HAVE to talk about Brian and his Red Special (if that is not signigicant, what is?). Brian has brought a lot to music and guitar. Those guys liked to experiment in music, make new sound....

Freddie was a very succesful imigrant. That might have had a good influence on other imigrants, but I am not sure.

I agree with you. Aside from money donated to charities, Queen have done an amazing job for AIDS awareness campaigns worldwide. The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert has to be their greatest historic achievement. Up until then AIDS was something no one wanted to talk about. Freddie's death and the awareness campaign lead by the remaining members of Queen brought the world's attention to a global problem.

Queen has been in the Guiness Book of World Records for being the highest paid executives (I think around '77 or'78), having a song be number 1 on all music charts (Another One Bites The Dust), and highest attendance record.
