To be honest, I'm not sure. I found front covers called Early USA and Dear Friend Good Bye but no back covers. Maybe there is an expert out there who could elucidate the question?

The titles of Queen bootlegs have become a major problem, for two reasons: 1) most people don't care about which version of a show they're getting, and 2) there are many people who invent their own titles, which adds to the confusion of which version is which.

With Beatles and Led Zeppelin bootlegs for example, the majority of recordings out there are from silver cds, and collectors of those bands are very careful when differentiating between versions of a concert or studio recording. Anything else has been labeled with a particular generation of tape, and in some cases, the equipment and software used to transfer a tape to digital. There is very little Beatles and LZ material that isn't properly identified (as long as we exclude mp3s going around on the internet, which those collectors generally ignore).

Collecting Queen, on the other hand, has been a royal (no pun intended) pain for serious collectors, because few of us understand how important it is to differentiate one recording from another. Because of this, there cannot be a system we can all agree on to label the recordings, and therefore, things are a complete mess. At the moment, Queen collectors are divided into two groups:

Group A) Those who acquire a show and label it with a date and city, which is the majority of collectors.

Group B) Those who research into which version they are acquiring before they acquire it. They try to find out if it's from a silver release or a private tape, and if possible, what the tape generation is. They then acquire the recording, label it properly, and then distribute it while ensuring that it will circulate as what it was originally labeled as. For example, Dallas 78 (which actually has different lineages for each disc, because one of the two master tapes deteriorated over time - but thankfully the bootlegger backed it up):

Disc 1: AMPEX 90 normal bias cassette > cassette > PC > EQ > CDR > FLAC level 8
Disc 2: AMPEX 90 normal bias cassette > PC > EQ > CDR > FLAC level 8

I've seen this recording pop up twice on QZ since it was originally shared on Dime, and both times the lineage wasn't attached. Maybe they were converted to mp3 and FLAC again, or maybe they were left untouched... who knows, because nobody said where the recording had been.

The people who care about these things are in the minority. When my new website is put up, I will surely have a list of all available recordings (in great detail) along with audio samples, as a first step of cleaning up this disgraceful mess which is the current Queen collecting situation. Titles are the least of our problems right now. We need to know what we're putting titles to!

We need to unite as a collecting community and figure out exactly which version is which, and weed out the obsolete versions. Then we need to have one definitive cover artwork for each recording, so someone can instantly know which version of a show they're getting, and be confident they are getting the best version available.

People are obviously afraid to speak up about these things, because they think they'll hurt the feelings of someone who is sharing a recording or cover art. But we need to speak up. We can't have people doing things individually. We need to work together as a collecting community if we want to change this situation for the better. But we're not going to get anywhere until enough people realize there is a problem.

Would just adding the lineage do the job? Or in other words: May adding the lineage be the only thing I could do when I´ve got not enuff information with a request?
What Im trying to say is that the lineage may be the most (only?) important thing about a shared recording.
Cause regarding the Title I see some problems which may hard to be solved. First of all there are more and more recordings shared which are edited or stitched together from different sources. The old title (if there had been any) would be outdated imo. So I see no problem in inventing a new one if the lineage is on the cover (I have to admit that I forgot that one on the Leiden cover.. 8( ).
Furthermore often enough no "bootleg"title is posted with the announces which make it hard for me to decide. Plus the fact that I do create a lot of covers here on request without having the recording myselves.
So if its not just about the lineage I need detailed information about the title as well.
At the moment we have more of "10 recordings and 2 covers" then vice versa..

Don´t get me wrong.. I totally agree with you that Queen-stuff seems to be messed up atm and I would really like to help clearing things up.
but if you have a look at the Leiden-Announce for example you may understand the problem I have to deal with -- two different sources, that makes two different lineages and no title posted with it (how if its a new compilation.. :-/ lol).
So in the past I decided for myself to make a rather neutral cover that fits most of the recordings or at least the information given in the announce.
Anyways I agree with you that sth has to be done to change this situation... but I´m still not really sure how. :-/

i'm concerned about this situation aswell.I used to download mp3 shows from queenzone without any serious collecting intentions.That has changed , so now I want to have the best version available from each show I get. It's just a fact that many Queen fans don't understand anything about collecting bacause they only know the Queen collecting world which is a mess as Bob said. I found out more about collecting by visiting the trader's den. I found out that the shows shared there have a lineage and sound good:-)we should indeed all work together to achieve the same situation for Queen collecting. So we should inform people about the importance of detailed information attached to a recording

I don't create artworks 'cause I'm not so good in graphics... and I usually (actually always) use the covers shared here by Dr3amSl33p...

But often there are some confusions about, not only the lineage (which is VERY important) and the title of the bootleg, but also putting the correct titles of the songs, because often 2 or 3 songs are all included in a medley, for example...

I think we've to create a list of all the live recordings shared here including all the details about the sources, the titles and, very important (if there is), the best version available.

Anyway, I know it is the less important problem we've to handle (that of the titles of the songs), but that's a way to show my complete agreement with you (first of all with SirGH).
