Once upon a time I bought off of ebay this Bonhams catalog (#1793) auctioning Rock and Roll and Film Memorabilia - the auction date being Tuesday 16 November 2004 in Knightsbridge, London.

How sad is that to see Freddie's beautiful outfit without him in it?! The description was: "Freddie Mercury's stage costume, 1980s, comprising a bright yellow jacket in military style with multi-buckle fastenings and a pair of white trousers with red and gold piping, lower left leg with pocket, together with a statement of provenance. L8,000 - 12,000 This distinctive outfit was worn by Freddie during Queen's sell-out 1986 'Magic' European tour. It also made an appearance in the video for the 1989 single release, 'The Miracle'."

Why would Freddie want a pocket in the lower left leg of his trousers? I've read that the costume was sold for various amounts, one being L26,290. (I don't know if that is correct.)

The photo was described: "Denis O'Regan: Freddie Mercury, St. James Park, Newcastle, 1986, a large photographic print sealed in UV film and mounted on a thin aluminum panel, signed by the photographer and numbered 1/10, 183 x 122cm (72 x 48in) L500 - 600 The first concert of the band's 'Magic' tour, 7th June."

Wouldn't you love to have that picture?! It differs slightly from this photo/pose http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c138/carboengine/afmj2.jpg as in this one Freddie's body is more rotated to his left. His white trousers on the top of his thigh above the stripes isn't visible, and the right side of his jacket front isn't as visible. I wondered why I had not seen this pose in the Wembley dvd - it didn't happen there.

Does anyone know what stage of the 'Magic' tour this photo is from? http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c138/carboengine/afmy3.jpg

Does anyone know how many yellow jackets there actually were? There had to be more than one in case of spills, rips, other damage, drycleaning time, loss. Somewhere I read that Freddie, when he was offstage, would sometimes strip down, get wiped off, get dressed in the very same outfit, and go back on stage looking all neat and clean.
Yes, it was a worthwhile experience.
It's not a pocket, it's just a horizontal seam.

And I expect there were up to half a dozen jackets in each of white and yellow

And the photo looks like Wembley to me.

It looks like Knebworth to me...

Is it pathetic that we can tell?

Yes, I think it's Knebworth too. You can tell from the public.

I'm very sure that it's slane castle.

I'll have to go with your guess. The audience seems to be standing on an incline, and that's what the venue was like at Slane Castle. At Knebworth it was pretty much a flat field.

I'll ask again: Are we pathetic for knowing these details?

What if it was Madrid?? Or Newcastle?? Seriously...does it matter?? He did that pose quite a bit during that tour, maybe on other tours...
I Want It All And I Want It Now!!
It's Sunbury. Can't you people tell??
But aren't there grandstands in the back? I remember the lower blocks being quite small in Newcastle, just what it seems like on the pic.

And yes: pathetic. I once tried to convince friends of mine that Roger's pic in Live Magic is from cologne, because I could tell from the floodlight... we should get a life. :-)
Guten Tag und Guten Abend !!! We had a great time in Cologne. Drinking beer in the sunshine beside the Mighty Rhein brought back many memories for me..... (Brian May, 2004)

I have one... three days a week when my girlfriend is not away to the College she goes to. But for the better part of the week I'm a pathetic Queen-anorak.

1986 was a funny year for fashion - I'm pretty sure the trousers I wore to see Queen at Slane had pockets in the lower leg. I think I had some snacks in them.

So if it's good enough for me, it's good enough for Freddie!

I don't see a pocket on the left pant-leg. But who knows right?

That picture is at Wembley, look at the background of the pic, and then look at the stadium itself on the dvd. Its Wembley. There are a lot of pictures from that particular concert, that weren't on the dvd, but also keep in mind they used footage from both nights.
Wembley and Slane! |-)
