I've looked through a lot of sources and the average range is 1.5-2 octaves. Then again, I don't know if that includes falsetto or not.
A quick mental survey of my choir says this is about right. Most of the girls singing soprano can't even reach G5 or A5. I know one girl in my group, mezzo, who can't really go below C4 - but she's in with us because she can't really go above C5.
Choir is pretty depressing. People are just in there to talk to their friends. And though it sounds even whinier, and being stuck singing at the bottom of my range ALL THE TIME is a drag. They might as well just make us sing the Tenor part.

I don't know - I was searching to buy the sheet music, and in the Google results, someone was claiming that on an American Idol forum. Something like, "I wish they would do 'Killer Queen', but that song requires, like, a three octave range".

When I was around 17 I could get very low (the G below "Leroy BROWWWN"). I've had dust mite allergies since then, it's pretty much obliterated that part of my voice. I can only do that shit if I avoid talking!!
On the other end I can only really get to A (think Tie Your Mother Down). I can do the B above that, but only 2 times out of 10. Thereabouts.

^Fred is pretty amazing, too, though. Okay. I checked, and it looks like my range is about G3 to about C7, give or take a few notes. Although I could be wrong, as that seems like a kinda large range.

yma sumac had a range up to 5 octaves back in the day, even in her older age she still can hit those notes!
its been said her range is about E2-E7ish
she does a triple trill in "chuncho"....crazy! that song basically shows most of her range. its supposed to mimic the sounds of the jungle.

iGSM told you his vocal maximum, and minimum lowest point (the lowest note being his highest possible lowest note; we know that he can sing that one, and we have no reason to suppose he cannot sing any lower). The only thing that you could possibly say about his vocal range based on the info you got is that it ranges from a lower than C4 at least to a rough maximum of D5. In other words, you know that he can master the complete 4-octave, but nothing is known about his lowest point, and you can thus say NOTHING about it. That has nothing to do with any knowledge of music, just with being a braindead I-want-to-tell-my-sad-ego-I-know-it-best pathetic teen.
