All I know is I have a 3-4 octave voice leaning more towards 3. BUT I'm working on it!!!!

well i did open mic night at my college, its usually a gathering of my musician friends and we all jam and stuff, but i actually sang. it wasnt my best, but it was something. ive been unusually tired today, stressed from hw and such, and when your instrument is a part of you (for anyone who plays the innuendo game, i just won) tired+singing doesnt work too well. but it was fun. i sang 'plush' by stp. i figured since my lower range is prevalient when im tired, id go with that. id like to pick a queen song that is well know, semi-simple with no piano/keyboards that i can sing to.

I bought a microphone last weekend...and I was going to record meself singing. Then I did. And it sounded terrible. So I think I'll do some warm-ups and get my voice well, then I'll see what happens. :D

HAHA a vocal range thread.
I got up and sung on a stage for the first time in my life on Wednesday. And it was a song I 'wrote' but have never sung (not even at home, because I don't want the family to hear it).
And it was *AWFUL*!! I made up the melody on the spot, just about... I made a sound that might equate to a B in some quarters, but it was *not nice*....
I don't think I'll sing again. :)

It depends on the microphone you bought. Some cheap toy ones really do lose a lot (I know - my microphone I use on the computer was probably made in the 90s - like my computer). And all mics are different - even professional studio or stage mics do different things to the same voice.
You already do sound different to other people than you do to yourself. A microphone can do a good job, but you might not be used to hearing yourself from an "outside" standpoint.
Now, if you're singing along with something like Queen - it's possible that Tenor range is just not a happy place for you to be (I for one sound absolutely drunk in the range required for "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon" - it's not a "happy place").
Be careful how you warm up, too - make sure to drink water when singing for an extended period of time. Make sure you take note of changes in your voice.
For instance, I CAN sing along to O, "Sweet Transvestite" - but if I did that more than once my voice would be really sore - same goes for if I were to sing higher than Soprano C for a long time (I did that once - DUMB idea, my voice hurt for three days).

certain days i can sing above the 'high c's' but only every so often.
