DRUMMER: can't believe so many think Roger is a great drummer...especially when more than half of his output used synths or elctronic drums...have these people not heard of John Bonham, Keith Moon, Nick Mason, Ginger Baker, Eric Carr and much of the beatles later output had better drumming than Roger's
BASSIST: - don;t make me laugh - John was good but not great - John Entwhistle, Flea, Bob Babbit, Bernard Edwards, Krist Novoselic, Sting, Chris Squire....they all beat John for abilty and having their own individual style
GUITAR: done this before...but here goes...Randy Rhoads, Tom Scholtz, Michael Schenker, Jimmy Page, Slash, George Harrison, Eddie Van Halen, Robert Fripp and Pete Townsend...
the whole point of queen...was nOT about individual greatness...but the sum of the parts...so lets not get so sychophantic about it, and stay objective.....good, very good but not great or greatest....the sum total made them the second greatest band ever...and that's good enough for me....especially when the greatest band ever (the beatles) didn't claim to have the greatest musicians ....just enjoy the music...for what it is...[/QUOTE] I don't agree with all your posts, but this one is right on. roger "was not" the best drummer, he was and is very good. From 1980 onward he was actually an average at best drummer. John was a nice bass player, but was obviously not the best. freddie was a very good but not great pianist, and brian is a great guitarist, but he'll never be hendrix or some of the others with that "it" factor. Queens greatest strengh was songwriting with all four members writing hits and amazing songs that will last forever. I agree that The sum was greater than the parts.

I mean I agree. Brenski says that John deacon wasn't such a great bassist. Yes I know, he didn't move around a lot in the concerts, but he's a bassist. What do you want him to do? Like azza said, he is a great musician. He has wrote so many hits. Like, You're My Best Friend, One Year of Love, In Only Seven Days, If you Cant Beatm Em, Need Your Loving Tonight,etc. He has a lot of talent and so does Roger, and every single member of Queen had their own great talents and that's why Queen was such a wonderful band.
