Wow, this is a fresh and exciting topic.
Why hasn't anyone though of something like this before for a topic of discussion?
I can hardly wait to engage in a dialogue and come to understand the fascinating points of view concerning this subject matter.

Queen should stay. Paul Rodgers should go.
[QUOTENAME]Elizabeth Knightson wrote: [/QUOTENAME]Although I think we should Brian and Roger use the Queen name as they want (nb: they NEVER inculded Paul in the Queen name, it's Queen+Paul Rodgers for God's sake!), one could argue that although Brian and Roger were at the very start of the band, the name Queen in itself was found by Freddie (even Brian and Roger admitted they weren't really enthusiast about it at the begining)so maybe if Freddie is dead, the name shouldn't be used.
However, I think Roger and Brian who spent twenty years of their life with Freddie, know what they're doing and have the right to use the Queen name even nowadays without John and Freddie. It wouldn't even make sense if they took a new name.
Elizabeth, as you seem like a good soul I'll be gentle. No one has ever said B & R don't have the "right" to use the Queen name. However, for the man on the street, Freddie was Queen. To some people, Queen was the four of them. "Rights" have nothing to do with it. Brian is perhaps the finest gentleman in music. But at one time, Brian took a vow before God to be faithful to his wife. It was his "right" to do what made him happy. He committed adultery. He also had the "right" to play in a blacklisted country whose racist policies were abhorrent to most artists and sportsmen in the world. My point is, what B & R feel their "rights" are may be right for them. It may be absolutely wrong for other people, and those people will never accept B & R using the Queen name. Rights are what you feel. Someone here who doesn't care that they are calling themselves Queen recently said something like "five letters (Q-U-E-E-N) shouldn't mean more than the music" and that person is absolutely right. But, I'd counter that if it's about the music, dump the Queen name, because Freddie Mercury made Queen different. However, it's not about the music, it's about sales and brand recognition. There's no shame in that, but for my money, it ain't Queen without John and Freddie. If others say it is that's great. I just wish that people would be honest and say it's about sales and nothing more.

"the brian may and roger taylor`s band with paul rodgers on vocals project"
^ rofl haha...good one :P
Boy Raker, I think I got your point though I'm not sure whether you are talking "rights" on a legal point of view or a moral point of view.
I was talking from a moral point of view: Brian and Roger think there's no harm in using the name. (I think Freddie wouldn't mind that)

thank you...
someone who finally thinks the same thing i do...
theres only half the members of the oringal band left so why don't they just start fresh with a new name.
they will just do as well with a new name as they did with queen but i do agree that they should change their name by far.

In my opinion, if Queen changes their name, so the lengend of Queen is over.
Hi Elizabeth. My POV is based on the fact that some people's argument is that Brian and Roger have the "right" to be called Queen, and that ends the discussion. I don't disagree with that assertion that being in the band for 30 years gives them that right, but just because a member of QZ says it's Queen, or Brian and Roger are calling it Queen doesn't mean a thing. They are the two active members of Queen who use the name, which is their right.
Here's a quiz for people to decide who Queen is:
A) vocals: Freddie guitar: Brian drums: Roger bass: John
B) vocals: Paul Rodgers guitar: Brian drums: Roger bass: all of the above
C) vocals: Paul Rodgers guitar: Eddie Van Halen drums: Roger bass: John
D) vocals: Eddie Murphy guitar: guy from Flock of Seagulls drums: Sheila E. bass: John
E) vocals: John guitar: Rufus Taylor drums: programmed bass: programmed
If you believe that A and B are Queen, then you have to believe that C, D and E, and any other combination of musicians are also Queen. After all, if it's only a name, and John has the right, then you absolutely cannot argue that John can tour this summer with a comedian who can't sing, the crazy haired guy from Flock of Seagulls replacing Brian and Prince's percussionist and call that lineup Queen. The key is whether you accept that, and anybody who says it's only a name had better be in the front row watching Eddie Murphy belt out Bohemian Rhapsody.

I say they get Staffell back and become Smile again.

"Shut the fuck up you dickweed. Are you retarded? Money makes the world go around. EMI is a company. A company exists to make profits. If they use the name Queen they'll get more money. FACT. Ever hear that accountants control things."
Another fine example of what passes for reasoned discussion on QZ these days.

I seem to recall a concert in 1993 at Cowdray Park where Roger and John performed and they called themselves Queen.
