Oh Zeb... I was able to stay disconnected until I saw him :(
It's nice to see so many cat lovers here. So many seem to think they're aloof, unloving, selfish, whatever. They just don't get it. Cats are the coolest. And they can be caring. Carly knows when I'm down. I swear she's come up to lay down beside me and even put a paw on my arm when I needed it.
And you guys with the liver problems.. been there too. Lost my Annie a few years ago to that. I tried force feeding, the IV hydration.. nothing worked :(

You are so right...Cats can read the emotions of people, really they can.
Boots can always tell when I'm upset, because she'll come up and sit with me, curl up in my lap if I'm scrunched up on the couch or lay on my stomach if I'm laying down. Then she'll rub her face against mine until she thinks I've cheered up. I've never had a cat that couldn't tell when someone was upset and did their best to comfort them.

T'was up here as well.
"I remember crying when our first poodle was put down. I was too young to conceptualise the whole 'not coming back' thingy."
Yeah.... I've had cats dying around me for longer than I remember, so I know what to expect. This was the first time I've seen one get put to sleep. I wasn't too big on the idea, but I wanted to be with him.

When you come down to it, there are some very sweet folks on this forum.
Thanks all :)
Thanks all :)
Oh my, what a beautiful little guy. So sorry for your loss :-(
Thanks too for the kinds words about my Rory, folks. As of right now she is still with me. She started eating yesterday. The vet says we'll take it week to week. She says I'll know when its time. I'm sure she's right. I've had to have two dogs and a kitty put down in the past. Right now I'm just enjoying her.

If she started eating on her own I think that's a very good sign! Don't give up Janet :) I hope she pulls through :)
My Annie never did try to eat on her own again. I think she knew what was going on and wanted to get it over with. Like wanting to be by herself too. The day she was almost gone, I'd stayed up all night with her and finally I just made her comfortable and she passed while I slept. I kept the little throw she was on and refuse to wash it. Silly I suppose.
I guess as hard as it is to lose them, it's worth it for all the love and smiles they give. Part of the deal I suppose.

I'm so sorry Z and Janet. I'm a huge animal lover and I know how much it hurts to lose them but the joy they bring to you while they are here is priceless.
3 pet mice.
don't think hugging them would be a good idea.

Well...my Rory lost her fight this morning. Things had deteriorated rapidly this week. She purred right up until the very end.
We'll miss you little Rory Eleanor! What a grand old gal you were!
RIP, friend.

Janet,
I'm so, so sorry.
I know on some level you know this, but I have to say it anyway - Rory knew how much she was loved and she knew you were doing all you could to make her comfortable and healthy. Realizing it was her time and letting her go, was the greatest gift you could have given her. It doesn't make it hurt any less, but then, that's the price we pay for all the love they bring into our lives.
I'm very sorry. <hugs>

Aw thanks everyone. Last night my husband and I sat and shared our memories of her, as a kitten and when she was in her prime. She gave us alot of joy and she knew she was cherished and that makes me feel at peace.
:-)

I don't wanna say too much because I'll start thinking and become very sad, but just know that I'm very sorry too :(
