whirled peas, you should use mp3gain or wavgain for "normalizing" the volume. It gives a better quality according to some people with golden ears mp3gain.sf.net is the first link, i think this is enough

I'd vote for releasing the 46664 Queen songs, studio version, with some other tracks enough for an album. I'd love to hear The Call of Say It's Not True! And yes, a tour would rock too, I'd happily travel a lot to see...

If you have poor quality to begin with, you _will_ still lose some quality when you encode to mp3, or any other _lossy_ format. Lossless formats like FLAC do not introduce any quality loss.
