the dreaded 'Joxer,finger of fate' did it again :-p
as soon as i mention Arshavin here he has a shocker of a match lol
the Russians are a mixed bag,i saw this in the qualifiers against England,the Russians were dreadful at Wembley and then 4 days later played like world beaters.Gus Hiddink is the 'nearly man' isnt he? always gets to the semi's but then the bubble bursts.
i was gonna mention how good some of the Spanish players are by name but i wont just in case i put the dreaded hex on them for the final,but the midfield player beginning with S and ending in ENNA is the player of the tournament for me.he's won every midfield battle and reminds me of Vierra when he was at Arsenal,awesome.

Today is the day thatwe were waiting for... and I'm freakingly nervous as always xD
I remember 2 years ago, when England was going for the World Cup tournament, some English supporters were claiming that they have the best midfield in the world. Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard and... whoever was on the left, can't even be bothered to check... man, how laughable that looks now. In England almost everybody still says that Lampard and Gerard CAN'T play together because they are to similar or sth.
There you have, in the European Championship final, not two but THREE extremely influential players who dictate the tempo of the game. And they don't cancel each other. They complement each other. It's unbelievable. Senna, Silva, Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas. There. The best midfield in the world. I am watching the football since 1988, maybe 1990... I have NEVER seen anything like this. The influence, the fluidity, how comfortable they are on the ball, vision, the movement without the ball... and how they close down on German players. INCREDIBLE.

Congratulations to the Spanish squad! They deserved to win this tournament, they played beautifully and fast throughout, that's when soccer is fun to watch, regardless the squads we root for.

The best team won. Simple as that.
Not only they were the best. They were well above the rest. Evenm if they had tougher games, the games when not everything went their way- they won them. And when things WENT their way- they made something really special out of it.
1:0 is a score that REALLY flatters Germany. Because they were completely outplayed. They had no clue what was going on for most of the game. One have to admire mental strength that this VERY avarage team shown by getting to that final. It is truly remarkable. But they were bad- the defence was awful, and for the second time they played the team who could expose it. And Spain did just that.
I was so happy after that whistle, for a moment I felt like Spanish. They finally won sth, after 44 years. What they need to do now is to firmly establish themselves on top and take it further and not make us wait ANOTHER 40 odd years for a repeat. Very talented and YOUNG team. And could Iniesta be the player of the tournament? Or Xavi? Or maybe Casillas?
