How can you not like Cosmos Rocks?
Are you kidding? It's a very lacklustre effort.
"Warboys" has to be one of the most misguided songs I've heard for years. Christ, it's not the soldiers fault, blame the people sending them into those stupid wars.
The album is soooo out of touch it's embarassing. Nevermind the playing is underwhelming considering who it is.
Freddie or not, this is a poor effort.

Great album, well done. To me it doesnt sound very different to what Id expect a Queen-album with Freddie of today to sound like. Sure theres a strong Paul Rodgers-feel, but for Gods sake hes on the album. Hes a great musician so it isnt a bad thing in my book anyway.
Seems to me people have the wrong expectations. They think it will be certain sound, when they havent really done the operatic sound for 30 years anyway. And because of the level of the hitsongs they are most famous for people also expect this to be some kind of Greatest Hits 4, shockfull with surefire hitsingles, when very few of their old albums comes even close to that.
To say this is AOR rock or something really only shows that you arent familiar with the music of Paul Rodgers and the blues and soulbases of it, which is far from FM-rock. Sure Paul was huge in that market, but that doesnt change the fact that there is much meaning and roots in the music he made than what the genre is known for. Queen to a large part shares the same roots, after all they came from the same place. So this record really isnt about escaping their past but rather of going back to their original roots.
At heart they were always a heavy/rock band though, and that is what shines through on this album combined with the blues which was always there aswell but hidden. That is what Paul brings and that is why this is such an interesting meeting that brings out aspects of Queen that werent really obvious before.
Queen were always about change, so if it sounds slightly different its nothing new. Their albums were always varied and they changed their sound from almost every record.
If you dont like it, fine. I dont like all the old Queen-albums anyway. Peoples tastes vary it is the way we work, but please respect us who do like it instead of throwing insults at people, the album or the bandmembers.

No, they're younger than my Father. Why then can't they record material more in the vein of the older stuff they still play live then?
They're happy to play it live, otherwise nobody would be interested. As for recording new material, it seems it's creatively beyond them.
